The ViewLondon Review
Dolphin Bar and Grill is located in the prestigious Dolphin Square development. The location is a bit hidden but the great service, affordable prices and large portions make up for it.
The Venue
The tiny interior only holds about fifteen tables. Walls are painted a dark burgundy and cream and dark wood shutters cover windows overlooking the 60ft indoor swimming pool, which is heated all year round. Black and white prints decorate the walls and light filters through the many skylights. Tables are light wood and paired with dark wicker chairs.
The Atmosphere
The staff are tentative but professional and friendly. Thanks to its location, Dolphin Bar and Grill enjoys a clientele made up of locals and residents of Dolphin Square, as well as people in the area just for a visit.
The Food
A chicken satay (£6.95) starter is made up of two skewers of thick, chunky and juicy white meat chicken covered in a coconut and chilli sauce. This small plate is satisfying and bigger than the average chicken satay dish, but there isn’t the slightest hint of either chilli or coconut in the sauce, just peanuts. Spicy wedges with sour cream (£4.95) are served in a large bowl and come in a generous portion. The wedges are thick and crispy on the outside soft on the inside but unfortunately they’re not at all spicy. The sour cream that comes with it, though, is deliciously flavoured with chives and lime.
For a stick-to-your-ribs main course try the 8oz sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce (£16.95). This juicy, tender steak is cooked to your liking and is a perfect match to the side of buttery and herbed new potatoes (£2.50). The Mediterranean vegetable filo moneybag with goat’s cheese veloute (£10.95) is a large, purse-shaped filo parcel that’s generously filled with aubergines, courgettes, onions and peppers that have been sauteed in a tomato sauce. It sits on top of a bed of rocket and is surrounded by a thick and rich sauce made with goat’s cheese. For dessert, the assorted ice creams (£4.95) are tasty but not exceptional, with only vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavours available. The chocolate brownie and ice cream (£5.95) is served warm and surrounded with a sweet and thick chocolate sauce. Although it’ll cure your sweet craving it’s only standard in quality.
The Drink
Dolphin Bar and Grill’s wine list offers a range of bottles from around the world. Prices for bottles range from £13.50 to £24 and start by the glass at £4.15.
The Last Word
Dolphin Bar and Grill offers a variety of dining options, from breakfast through to a prix fixe three course set menu at £15. Be sure to have a stroll around the beautiful and secluded residence area that it’s located in.
