The ViewLondon Review

Popular with ladies who lunch and like to shop for designer clothes, even if you aren't a lady of leisure but happen to work nearby, Drones at Fenwick is an oasis of calm interiors and quality cuisine worth knowing about.

The Venue
The elegant restaurant is conveniently located in Fenwick department store on New Bond Street, London’s most glamorous and fashionable street when it comes to shopping. Armani, Ralph Lauren, Hermes and Tiffany line up alongside Sotheby’s auction house and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Drones restaurant is easy to reach, you just glide up the escalators to the second floor of the Fenwick department store and there is the restaurant, conveniently placed close to the designer and international clothes' collections. The style of Drones restaurant at Fenwick is minimalist chic, mostly in black and white, but there is also a very elegant mirror on one of the walls tinged with smoky hues of pink and silver.

The Atmosphere
The fact that Drones at Fenwick is busy even during the week is testament to the restaurant's success. Mainly female diners sit at the tables covered with beautiful white linen cloths, some with young children, others treating their grown up daughters to lunch. However, a few savvy men can also be spotted enjoying a sophisticated business lunch.

The Food
In total keeping with the restaurant's chic address and sister restaurant at Drones members' club, the food is excellent, beautifully presented and tasty even if it does come at New Bond Street prices. Most of the main courses are priced slightly over £10.00 but it's money well spent. For starters, the carpaccio of beef is as good as you'll find in any top Italian restaurant and the grilled vegetables with authentic buffalo mozzarella had a very good flavour, even if it is slightly too much of a medley.

Main courses include fish cakes with salad, which are tasty if a little dry and pan fried calf’s liver with mashed potato and wilted spinach, cooked to a subtle perfection and succulent and filling without seeming heavy. Desserts include a selection of ice creams, lemon or pumpkin tart and chocolate mousse served in a martini glass.

The Drink
The house champagne makes an ideal accompaniment to your starter or main course as does the New Zealand sauvignon blanc. However, if you’re looking for something more full bodied to eat with red meat then the Spanish Bodegas Arrocal red is very good which it should be given that it comes in at around £8.00 per glass.

The Last Word
Whether you are laden with shopping and want to relax or looking for somewhere near the office to enjoy a delicious working lunch, Drones at Fenwick is an ideal place to eat and a world away from traditional department store restaurants.
