After a few beers on Saturday, some friends and I went to the Eastern Eye. As it was raining we weren't in the mood to hang again so basically went into the first curry house that looked quite busy. I cannot understand all of these five star reviews. They must have been written by people who a) have never eaten curries before (i.e.American) or b) friends/relations of the owners.
We all agreed that our curries 'weren't bad'. Certainly not up to the Lahore Kebab House or Taayabs standard. I had a Lamb Ureebisi Gatta (something I have never come across before) which, worryingly, was 'hot' hot rather than spicy hot, like it had been heated up in a microwave. It was passable.
What was annoying was the slow service: it took ages for anyone to take our order, and ages before the food came. By which time the restaurant was quite empty. I put £20 into the 'pot', which included the price of a couple of Cobras. The toilets look like they have been flown in from Dacca as well. We probably won't rush back there.
I visited this restaurant last evening for the second time, and was not disappointed, the food was absolutely superb, as was the service. The cost for two for two courses and a couple of drinks each was, I think, cheap at £31.00 I have paid a lot more in Brick lane without coming close to experiencing the friendly service and great food offered here.
I am a frequent dinner at Eastern Eye, and will continue to be for a very long time. I’m a very fussy eater and Eastern Eye caters to all customers, from Sweet dishes all the way to extremely spicy dishes. Believe it or not they were the first Asian restaurant I’ve eaten in and I can say with confidence they’ll be the only restaurant I’d visit for Indian cuisine. As for keeping an eye on the waiters, I find them very attentive…there very busy for a reason, and that reason is because the food is amazing and everyone eating there knows it. Come down, you deffo wont be disappointed!
Ate at Eastern Eye last night for the 2nd time.
Eight of us, all had different dishes and all thought the food was fantastic.
Service very good especially as this was a full restaurant at 9pm on a Saturday night.
We all had 3 courses with lots of drinks and bill only came to £130.
Wouldn't go anywhere else on Brick Lane! just wished we lived nearer than our 160 miles away!
I went with a friend to Eastern Eye Balti House last week, I had chicken tikka balti and my friend had tandoori chicken macani dish. Along with it we had two plates of rice, naan and later we ordered desserts. When I think back about the dish my mouth get watery. The food was so delicious and very tasty. The sauce that I tasted with the naan bread is very tempting.
I think the service was very good, the waiters made us feel very welcomed. The atmosphere of Eastern Eye balti house is very calm and relaxing. When we recieved the bill, we was shocked that we had 20%discount, and the manager claimed that every of their customers would get 20% offer with food and drink. I am definatly coming back again, me and my friend had very nice time.
I personally feel that rating Eastern Eye five stars out of five starts is not really enough because Eastern Eye has higher standard.
We ate at Eastern Eye 24/05/09 excellent Sunday offer 6.95 for 4 courses, food was very good along with the service,2 bottles of wine plus food for four 44.00,we will be back.
Ate at the Eastern Eye for the first time last night and it was great!
Restaurant is clean , food was delicious and the service was ok.
We were also pleasantly surprised when the bill came.
Would definitely recommend and would visit again.
After nearly getting highjacked by the doormen of Brick Lane's restaurants we took a chance on the Eastern Eye because it was bright with large glass windows. Had dinner with a colleague from New York, we had vegetarian and a chicken curry, two types of rice etc., beer and wine. We both agreed that it was delicious. The bill was a pleasant surprise, just 25.00. Had to wait for a our bill for some time, the waiters were busy. We met the owner and he was touched by our compliments. I will dine at Eastern Eye again. Definitely recommended.
Keep your eye on the waiters at Eastern Eye. They are sometimes hard to find. Well, when we wanted more drinks it took a while to get hold of them. We hate waiting for drinks so I'm sorry Eastern Eye you don't get top marks.
Eastern Eye is the bomb. They do the best spicy food in the city. Curries, laksas, noodles – you name it, they got it. I love Eastern Eye, and you will too.
