It's hard to believe the others reviewing this place went to the same restaurant. My partner and i live nearby and went a couple of years ago. The food was, to say the least, mediocre.
We ventured back recently to give it a second chance, assuming that previously we'd arrived on a bad night. Alas, the restaurant had not improved in the slightest and was still serving up 2nd rate meals. The atmosphere is ok, and the staff are pleasant and helpful, but the food is generally tasteless and poor. Idiot-proof dishes like fried Chorizo are dull and bland variations on anything one could knock up in 5 minutes from a trip to the Morrissson's that sits opposite the restaurant. The Patatas Fritas tasted like it came out of a bag of compressed Smash, and was utterly vile and devoid of flavour. We figured they couldn't go wrong with the pork escalopes, but these sinewy chunks had more in common with a Wimpy Bar than a Spanish restaurant.
We registered our disapproval, and to be fair, the waitress was apologetic and even gave us a refund on some dishes, but the bottom line is this is a restaurant in dire need of a decent chef.
It's a shame, because some of the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere of the place is pleasant enough. However, when it comes to the food, this is a restaurant that needs to seriously raise its game if it's to survive in the times ahead.
Me and my lovely partner's little treasure.
El Molino is a tiny, warm Spanish-Tapas restaurant on Holloway Road, N7.
It is always full of happy customers, the reasons being; the venue is authentic and adorable, the waitresses are (Spanish) are polite & professional and the food is gorgeous and brilliantly priced.
They bring olives & bread to the table at the start of every meal.
I order a handful of Tapas dishes and we all swap & share.
I am a strict vegetarian and there is a range of dishes for me, like breaded mushrooms with garlic mayonise. and spanish rice with vegetables.
The food is always brought to you speedily, even on weekends.
They always have a selection of home-made (or home style) deserts, including Tirimisu and cheese cake.
The prices are fantastic,a meal for 2 with wine costs us £32 the other day-amazing.
This restaurant in a success, I have dined there for years and will continue to take my partner on dates there, even after 3 years.
Enjoy!
I think El Molino has a great atmosphere now that it has been remodelled. We really enjoyed it, the waiters are great and you feel like you are at home. The food was very fast and tasty. We love El Molino. Good for celebrating.

Ok, so El Molino isn’t the grandest of restaurants. The food won’t win any awards and there’s no celebrity chef, but when I’m feeling sulky, all I have to do is spend an evening at El Molino and I feel alright again – it’s just one of those places.
El Molino is a disappointing restaurant. Although it says smoking is allowed, in fact the smokey atmosphere is repressive and permeates the whole room. Ventilation is non existent and there is no provision for non-smokers, not even an open window or door.
It's a shame because it could be a nice venue if all customer needs were catered for.
