When my partner proposed last July I knew that I wanted a chic London wedding and boy did Elysee deliver!
Our guests were treated to a wedding reception that oozed class and a menu that I am still getting emails about. The food was beyond our expectations, with a full meze for 65 and an equally amazing evening buffet for a further 100. Not to mention the high standard of the staff who were attentive to all our guests and on hand to fulfill all requests.
If you are considering an alternative to the traditional white wedding Elysee should be your first port of call. Oh and the late license until 3am and roof terrace certainly helps.
Great place tucked away in a side street off charlotte street. The food was excellent, i had the spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese) parcels and the pork souvla and my wife had some delicious lamb meatballs and a crab salad and above all they made us feel really at home. At some stage during the meal a band started playing some wonderful Greek songs which made the atmosphere really lively. In fact, as we were leaving, loads of people were arriving, but i guess that is because of the entertainment. This is a hidden gem and i would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to experience some Greek culture and lovely Greek food.
I am a Greek, and was very excited to visit this restaurant until the moment I got there. What an utter disappointment. It was a Friday night, and to my surprise there were only another 3 tables (but now i know why). The service was terrible from every single of one the staff. Me and my partner sat down, and within 2 minutes we were swarmed by questions of what we're going to eat, and what we should eat, and what is good for us etc. After telling him that we needed some time to decide, he went off, only to come back after literally 1 minute. By that time I had realized that this night would not be the kind of night I expected.
Once we decided what we were going to eat. Pork souvlakiki myself, and chicken souvla my partner, we called the waiter to order, only to find out that they were not serving many of the plates on the menu tonight. After asking why, we received a blatantly cold response, 'we don't have that tonight' ..'or tomorrow;
The food we did order was very average and extremely overpriced.
2 small pieces of sauge= 6 pounds ?
3 small slices of halloumi =5 pounds?
3 sides = 11 pounds?
Overall the place was an extreme disappointment.
Service = 3/10
Food = 4/10
Value for money = 3/10
Music = 5/10
We got out of Elysee at 330am having arrived at 6pm. We had drinks in the upstairs bar which is really swanky and then came down for dinner. This is the definition of dinner and dancing, and imagine when we walked outside we looked at eachother and asked "is that place for real?"we had a set menu because we were a group of 12. There was more than enough to go round and we had a great selection. Recommend the kleftiko, really tasty. The house wine was good and pretty well priced at around 20 pounds. Greek music takes a little getting used to. It sounds like a mix of Arabic and Italian, but the people really know how to enjoy the night. Plate smashing is one of the most strange but therapeutic things I have ever done. There were so many flying all over the place that it really was an amazing sight and at one stage, young girls were even dancing on the tables!
I have been to Elysee five or six times, and for some reason find myself daydreaming about it and wanting to go back because it is such a fun restaurant.
The food is good honest Greek. I have always tried something different each time that I have been but the things which stick in my mind are the taramosalata, the squid, the keftedes - lamb meatballs covered in sesame seed, and the scallops. Good thing about the menu is that we could choose a few dishes each and try from each others plates.
It is a restaurant by day/ early evening and one of the most outrageously fun party places by night. At 2am there were 50 people on the dancefloor and another 50 around it throwing bunches of flowers in the air and smashing hundreds of plates in celebration.
Elysee is a restaurant, a club and a roundtrip flight to Greece all in one!
Wonderful place! we all went there last night. My mate sat most the night trying to chat up the jazz singer, he had a fantastic voice but was a bit too old for me, Meze Meze Meze Meze was all over the table stacks of it. It's not advertised but I think the jazz band are there every Friday. Dishy waiters, great little jazz band, lovely food what more can a girl want.
It appears that a remarkable makeover has transformed this once quiet and uninspiring Greek restaurant into what I believe is one of the West End's most impressive new night spots. A resident jazz band plays every night apparently, and when we were there last weekend, we were truly blown away by them. Everyone (and I mean everyone!) was boogying away to fresh new covers of Gnarls Barkley and the like - a very cool start to what ended up being an unforgettable evening!
Once the Greek show started at around 11pm, live singers (flown in from Athens?!) took to the floor, the band was changed in a matter of minutes, and the the place was transformed from a beautiful funky jazzy restaurant into a happening Greek nightclub. Plates were even being smashed in true Greek style, and though very much a predominantly Greek crowd, it had a feel of Little Italy in Soho - another of my favourite London haunts. We only had some small mezze dishes as we were not massively hungry, but all were fresh, tasty and well prepared.
Though we arrived at 9pm, we didn't leave until around 4am which goes to show what a fun night it was.
Not cheap, but worth every penny.
Bravo Elysee! 10 out of 10! See you next weekend!
