The ViewLondon Review
This restaurant is a bit tricky to find but once you get there you will understand why it’s so exclusive. Tucked away down a quiet street in Southwark lies a wonderful Turkish delight.
The Venue
Outside you are greeted by a jungle of tropical plants and flowers that decorate the area where you can dine alfresco. The open and airy feeling follows you inside to the main dining area. Light colour tiled floors, dome- like ceilings with flowing green vines, and wood beams make you feel as if you were about to sit down to a backyard feast at your summer home in the Mediterranean. The huge bar is in a separate room which is equally as alluring and inviting.
The Atmosphere
Though the tables are small and placed quite close together, it doesn’t seem cramped due to the high ceilings and large windows which open up onto the garden during warmer months. The staff are courteous and welcoming, if a bit disorganised, but the laid back atmosphere makes up for it.
The Food
Cold and hot starters, soups, salads, grilled fish, seafood, meat, pasta, rice, as well as a fantastic vegetarian selection gives you loads of options. There are also set menus and a budget-friendly three course set lunch menu for only £5.95.
Borek, filo pastry stuffed with spinach and feta cheese is flaky, light and slightly salty from the feta. Zebzeli Eriste a homemade pasta dish consisting of chickpeas, spinach and sweet peppers, is a hearty and flavourful twist on pasta. Another appetizing choice is Nohutlu Tavuk which consists of chicken breast, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and chickpeas served with rice. This dish is satisfying and reminds you of home cooking. Desserts are kept simple including homemade ice cream, rice pudding with a Turkish spin and baklava which is light, nutty and sweetened with honey.
The Drink
You will also find plenty of wines and cocktails to quench your thirst. Wine bottles can cost between about £13 and £40, including red, white, rose, sparkling, and Champagne. Alcoholic cocktails and fresh fruit juices range from about £5 to £8.
