The ViewLondon Review
The Falcon is an excellent pub is a serious sun trap and south of the river favourite. The VenueSlightly off the beaten track in Clapham, if you turn right out of Clapham North tube station instead of left, you’ll see a large, lively crowd, spilling out of a yellow pub onto the pavement. Bingo. The large terrace at the front is equipped with benches and patio heaters for cooler evenings. Inside, there are a good number of tables and some comfy black leather sofas for convivial drinking. There’s also a pretty garden at the back.
The AtmosphereThe Falcon is a real sun trap, and the slightest break in the cloud draws a crowd of cool and casual Claphamites like moths to the flame. The same can be said for weekend evenings, when it’s packed to the rafters and churns out the tunes with a lively atmosphere to boot – anyone walking past is quickly drawn in. You’ll even spot the occassional D-lister or two drinking here – think ex-Shipwrecked stars and the like. When The Falcon is quiet, it’s still enjoyable, with the mood and music laid back and chilled out.
The FoodThe Falcon used to serve the most divine Thai food for less than a fiver. Now however, it’s switched to a decidedly average menu along the lines of burgers and chips. They’re reasonably priced and will certainly fill you up, but if you’re in the mood for a really great burger, may we suggest Clapham High Street’s Gourmet Burger Kitchen, but a short stroll away. Enough said.
The DrinkA good selection, with excellent cocktails at reasonable prices.
The Last WordThe Falcon is one of the best pubs in Clapham, and comes alive when the sun shines. If you’re in the area it would be a crime not to pay it a visit.
