We ate at Fifteen last night in celebration of Mother's Day, and almost all of us had cause to regret the decision to do so.
The antipasti were adequate at best, but extremely expensive for what you got. The main courses, however, were dismal. Fatty pork strips on some sorry looking lentils, a beef pasta dish with hardly a hint of sauce and no taste to speak of, and my choice, pollock with a polenta crust and "smashed jerusalem artichokes." It was supposed to have capers in the mix. I hardly tasted them.
Pollock being a cheap fish, with virtually no flavour, you have to work really hard and creatively to make it worth ordering. This was lifeless, tasteless and pointless.
Birdseye fish fingers would have been more satisfying.
After the mains most of us didn't feel up to dessert. A pecan pie arrived (a sliver at best, for £6). Total bill, well over £250 for seven people, and no happy customers.
What a rip off.
Very disappointing. Most people will have high expectation so this restaurant needs to deliver.
Expectations or not, it doesn't. Starters were the wrong dishes. when they arrived one was literally inedible, I woudn't expect to see it in a cheap Italian anywhere.
The risotto was bland, rice undercooked.Mains didn't improve much - pork belly was a non-occasion with bland beans.
Potatoes were literally that - nothing by way of seasoning or butter added. Veg were fine.
Desert was terrible, Panacotta.Such a shame, really, as with the brisk trade they seemed to be doing it could really be a beacon for fine, fresh, tasty food.
Not right now it's not.
Seven of us booked here; my girlfriend and I arrived early and were shown to the table, and then were completely ignored by the waiters. It took us ten minutes to flag one down to get a drink while we waited for the others. This was about 6.45pm.
The starter took a long time to arrive, around an hour after we ordered at 7pm. When you bear in mind there is no choice of starter, and it was a bunch of mismatched cold vegetables on a plate with cheap salami, it shouldn't really take this long to prepare. We left quite a bit of it. And as my girlfriend (whose dad is an Italian chef) commented "real Italians would be embarrassed to call this antipasti".
The main courses took even longer, and weren't served until nearly 10pm (three hours after we arrived!). My pork belly was unseasoned, soggy and fatty; the risotto one of the others had was literally inedible. We were unanimously disappointed with the food, with many people leaving a fair bit.
Just about the only saving grace was the desserts, which were well made and tasted good. But after more than three hours to get there of eating bland and poorly made food it wasn't enough.
Especially when we were faced with a £390 bill.
At this point I couldn't stand it any more and complained to the manager about the quality of the service, and the fact that the food was poor-to-inedible. His generous offer: "Would you like me to take the (automatically added) service charge off?". He then took my email address and they said they would be in touch to follow up on my complaint. Needless to say I haven't heard anything from them.
This is an absolutely dreadful, overpriced restaurant. The service and food are both poor, and the prices are extortionate for what they deliver. I've literally had better food and service at All Bar One. Don't go there.
My girlfriend took me to the Trattoria as a treat. When we got there I was glad she was paying after seeing the prices! We decided to share a dish of anti-pasti for starters and I can only say that at £9.00 it was not up to much, two slices of salami and a few veggies, the chicken liver pate was ok.
Then the horror of the main course, we both opted for the rib eye steak (£19 each) I can honestly say that both her and my steaks were awful. I can not really remember having steak that tough. To be fair to the maitre D' he accepted that the steaks were inedible and offered us two new ones which we declined as it was now 10.45pm. He did however charge us for the veg that we ordered with the steak even though we hadn't eaten any.
The MD then went on to explain to me that they do their own butchery and it is not possible to tell one good steak from a bad one (my butcher seems to get this right as I've never had a bad one from him). All in all, I felt that the prices were not a reflection of the quality and I would not be going again. The wine at £20 for the cheapest could have been used on chips if there were any.
11 of us were booked in the Trattoria. I ordered monkfish which was completely tasteless - no seasoning at all - my friend order poussin which again was not seasoned!
Was very disappointed with the main course and was hoping the dessert would be better. However, the limoncello cheesecake was not good - not even a hint of lemon!
Food was certainly not worth the hefty price. Setting was lovely and service was excellent. I met some other diners in the toilet and they were also complaining about the food. We voiced our concerns with the waitress and left a comments form. Very disappointed.
Fifteen Trattoria is the place Jamie Oliver set up a few years ago. It's a lovely relaxing restaurant with a rustic atmosphere and good food.
I recommend Fifteen Trattoria for an enjoyable meal with friends at any time of the day.
