A fun school reunion was our plan for Fino. Our booking was made for 9 pm and although we showed up on time we were asked to wait at the bar until our table was ready. We ordered cocktails, which were refreshing but tasted like they had no alcohol. We were finally shown to our table at 9:40. After placing our order and waiting for a long time we finally received some croquetas (which were very tasty) and a bread basket with 4 pieces of bread in it. We had been told by the waitress serving us that each portion had 3 pieces and we had ordered 2 portions, so when we asked about the missing 2 pieces the prompt reply given to us was that it did not matter as we were only 4 people on the table! After waiting for another 20 minutes we were told that the tuna tartar that we had ordered was unavailable. We then asked if we could have the rest of our food, which only resulted in the waitress bringing out our printed food order and asked us what we had received so far. We ordered a bottle of wine so make the wait easier, which came to us after we asked about it on 2 separate occasions. We were then told that they were taking last orders so would we like any more food, definitely a dilemma if you have not been served 80% of the food already ordered. On complaining we were told that the food was on its way which we did eventually get plate by plate with a long gap between each, except for the pimientos de padron peppers which were forgotten! We conveyed our disappointment to a very understanding manager who knocked off the service charge and 10% of the bill. This however did little to ease the disappointment of the evening. Although the food was nice (except the overcooked rajor clams) I don’t think it warranted the prices on the menu or the service received.
I can't believe this restaurant scores this high.
My wife and I visited this restaurant last weekend. From the start it was clear that the waitress wasn't in the mood to give us a nice evening out. Every move was intended to get us out out as soon as possible.
When ordering we stated that we wanted our orders in two pieces (a cold starters and some hot mains). We hadn't even finished our starters when the hot dishes already came. We send them back to the kitchen.
A few moments later the waitress came with two of the three hot dishes. I made a comment on the third dish, which started a discussion about the way tapas should be eaten, i.e. the kitchen decides when I get my dishes (and not the customer). The waitress asked if this was the first time we had tapas (little does she know)?!
When receiving the bill (from another waitress...) the 12,5% service charge was included, even though I clearly complained about the service! After a remark about the charge it was taken off, and the first waitress was there again, starting another discussion!
This is the worst restaurant ever. If you want to have a nice evening, don't go here.
ps. food was o.k., not great, but it's not only about the food.
Visited Fino in May for a special birthday meal, very relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff for Tapas novices.
Food was delicious, had 14 dishes between 4 people which was plenty and gave you a wide variety of taste explosions.
Excellent wine list and had a superb Rioja at just £32 a bottle and finished off with a lovely port.
Perfect for a romantic evening or a special meal and will definately go back.
Mark, Bucks
had some great lunches here. The food can be quite rich and leave you feeling stuffed for the rest of the day but its well worth it. Try the roast pork belly its some of the best i've ever had. A bit on the expensive side but well worth it.
I cannot believe the reviews that Fino has received. My husband and I visited in January 2006 and were very disappointed. The portions were small, the prices high and we were charged 12.5 percent service even though we sat at the bar and merely had dishes passed over to us from the kitchen.
Our bill came to just under £100, after only being there for about an hour and with only one bottle of wine and no desserts. We still left hungry. We would certainly not dream of returning to Fino.
Fino is noisy and busy but then a good tapas bar should be. The service was excellent and the food at Fino was some of the best tapas I've eaten in London. Highly recommended!
Fino serves some of the best tapas in town, there's no question of that. It's also very friendly and an excellent spot for a relaxed evening. Well worth a visit!
