Had a great meal before heading downstairs into the new bar for a music night. Stayed till late and was impressed by the staff and the menu choices. Will return.
We purchased the Groupon special offer (but have eaten here before). The special was the "Seafood Mixed Grill For Two (£14.50). Which sounded great. When we arrived we asked what was on the platter and were told, I thought ok, that cannot be all that is on it maybe they are just mentioning the highlights.
Anyway luckily we ordered fries and salad to go with it as when it came it was so disappointing - what they had done was given us a mean worth the reduced offer price not the price it should have been's value. Either that or if you payed full price for this dish you would be shocked. It had two types of fish, of which one was overcooked and both my husband and myself left it, two tiger prawns and some mussels - hardly the mixed grill I was expecting.
I can say from previous visits that the service is hit and miss and very slow. Regardless if you are the only ones dining it is still slow. I would not recommend it and now know the reason that it is always nearly empty. One thing that was interesting is that a couple who ordered well after us got their starters and mains before us, I wonder if that is because they were not getting the special (irony of word here) offer.
We used a Groupon voucher but still felt we got bad value. Lobster Thermidor was just half a small lobster with dried up sauce.
Service was dire - they were all clueless!
Service was very slow for a start, having sat there for a good half an hour before being asked for a food order, even though the restaurant was only half full. Prawn cocktail was bog standard and overpriced at £7.50, but the award for worst value went to the 6 small padron peppers on a saucer for a whopping £6.50 (normally you'd get a plateful for a couple of quid). Bresaola was too thick and not of great quality.
The Sea Bass was good quality, although at £19 came without any accompanying potatoes or veg, and I was charged £3.50 for two new boiled potatoes and £4.50 for a small plate of Samphire.
Upon, complaining about the peppers we were fobbed off with mumblings of 'margins expected by management from the kitchen' - I suspect that it's not the staffs fault, but that this place is an investment or business run at an arms length without any care or consideration for quality or customer satisfaction.
If like us, you don't mind paying so long as you get good service and great food, avoid this place at all costs.
Champagne prices, lemonade delivery.
Went to eat to Fish and Grill in Putney as my friend leave on the flat above and we had a lovely night. The menu is great, although I am not a huge fan of fish, so I went for the grill option. My friends shared the Chateaubriand that was perfectly cooked (quite a feat based on my London restaurant experience) and I had the Angus rib steak, delicious (and massive!)
Their portions tends to be big, I had that steak and chips and had the leak gratin on the side but I could not finish it all.
Wine list is great, our waiter was lovely and really helped us out picking the best wine.
The atmosphere is lovely, I love the huge doors at the front. We even got to see the chef at the end of our meal, lovely bloke.
Would recommend, great to finally see some fine food in Putney, it was about time!
After dining at Fish & Grill a few weeks ago with my girlfriend, we said we MUST go back! So as a Saturday night treat, we returned last week. What pulls customers back to Fish & Grill has to be the excellent service, fantastic food and lovely ambiance. You get the choice of a number of fresh Fishes as well as excellent meats. Although not your cheap night out, it is a must! The food is out of this world with a carefully selected wine-list. For anyone who wants a special night, then Fish & Grill is the place to go!
I went to the Fish and Grill in Putney last week and had such a fantastic evening! The staff were brilliant and the service was fast.
The food was delicious. I had a really enjoyable evening and would recommend it to all my friends as a great place to go for dinner and drinks!
I have visited this restaurant on two occasions, the first time was the very first day it opened and now recently this past weekend on Friday night at 19h30. In four months absolutely nothing has changed. On an opening night you can be forgiven for almost everything, however the same problems endure at this restaurant, with an evident recurring theme amongst reviewers - the service is absolutely appalling and the food is expensive for what it is.
It took over an hour from placing the order for our starters (4 people) to arrive. The starters comprised of 2 cold pre-prepared fishpots, 6 oysters and a salad, nothing complex.
After finishing the bottle of water I eventually had to get up (first time ever) and ask for another as a waitron was no where in view!
It then took a further hour for our mains to arrive.
The mains comprised of 2 specials (1 fish and 1 lobster), starter portion of dressed crab and atlantic praws (6 arrived for £16! it looked like a small tapa's portion). The lobster special was completely overcooked and had to be returned. My order of creamed spinach never arrived - despite two requests.
The problems were not exclusive to the kitchen, after 40 minutes of guests leaving, tables were still not cleared. In addition it has been many years since I had to fill my own glass of wine and that of guests - especially at a £50+ head restaurant.
Overall the service is so dire, that the quality of the food is completly overlooked. There was an overall annoyance in air which ruined the ambiance as almost every table was complaining, waiting for dishes to be cleared, orders to be taken and calling for the bill.
The first night we were offered a 50% discount as the service was so bad, this most recent visit a 25%...unfortunately its the last time we will be visiting, in particular with the large selection of other high quality restaurants in the area.
It doesn't even deserve 2 stars, but I'm in a generous mood.
Definitely one to a
I had lunch at Fish & Grill Putney with a friend a few weeks ago. It was fantastic, I love what's they've done with the interior, it feels fresh and modern but also welcoming.
The staff were great and the service we received was tentative and friendly. The wild garlic soup we had for starters was fantastic, I would return for this alone! The steak we had was a good size and cooked to perfection.
It was the ideal place for a girly lunch but I have heard the atmosphere in the evening is romantic so I will be taking the boyfriend for a treat!
Food was ok, but not great for the price (over £100 for two courses for two with wine) but service was poor. We went on a Saturday night when it was fairly busy and there didn't seem to been enough staff to cope - I can understand that as if I've been past other nights and it's been fairly deserted. However, we had huge waits for starters and mains to arrive, then sat with empty plates in front of us for 20 minutes before we finally grabbed someone to get a bill (with no apology for the delays). We shan't be going again until things have significantly improved - the quality of the food and the prices charged do not justify the poor service and long wait times.
Still a relative newcomer, but service needs to improve significantly. Items off the menu (but not communicated between kitchen and waiting staff), starters brought out separately, veggies and drinks forgotten despite two reminders, 10 minute wait for the bill - all of this unfortunately detracted from the high quality of the food. I'm sure these issues can be rectified but don't leave it too long.........
Excellent atmosphere, lovely to sit outside in the afternoon with a coffee and a book and amazing food that's out of this world!
Well done Fish and Grill Putney :)
