The Fish Shop on St. John Street was a big disappointment. The restaurant had no music and cheap furniture as well as unfriendly staff. Plus, it was £20.00 for six cold scallops at the Fish Shop on St. John Street.

I've eaten at The Fish Shop on St. John Street twice, and both times I've been disappointed. The setting is nice, and the food good but on both occasions I found the staff to be off-ish. The first time I visited the Fish Shop on St. John Street I thought maybe they were having an off day, but on returning a few months later I had the same experience. Yes, it was busy both times I went, but really - is this any excuse?

I love the Fish Shop on St. John Street. In my experience, the fish has always been very fresh, and skillfully cooked. I ate there on Friday evening. My friend had a perfectly cooked deep fried cod with hand cut chips, whilst I chose pan fried skate with fennel. It was a seriously impressive and memorable piece of fish. We shared a bottle of Sancerre (the more expensive of two on the list but well worth it). Truly outstanding.

This restaurant looks lovely, but I can't comment on the quality of the food because we were so appalled by the service that we left before even ordering.

The waiter began by bringing us just one menu to our table of two. When I asked for another he seemed surprised and went off to produce a soggy menu from another table.

Then the waiter appeared with a portion of bread. My partner spotted a hair on the butter and asked if we could have another one. The waiter took it away and brought back...the same butter, still with the hair on it, and now with two large fingerprints on the top. I called him over and pointed this out. He started arguing with me and telling me that there was no hair there, even though you could clearly see it. He then rolled his eyes, snatched the butter out of my hands and walked off.

We complained to the manager and left in disgust: if they can't even manage to serve us butter competently, then we didn't feel like staying for the rest of the meal.
