Let me start by saying that the quality of the fish is very good! Fresh and tasty. Every dish I tried on the table was great, and I'm a big and picky fish fan, so that says a lot. Unfortunately the restaurant concentrates too much on making small- french looking dishes, rather than the good Italian styled dishes of simple, bulk, and fresh. They make their dishes look beautiful but the amounts are tiny! And considering the costs, it simply doesn't cut it, no matter how good the fish is. The other negative aspect is the owner. I've read many reviews of how terrible the service is in fish!restaurant, and to be honest, the waiters seemed absolutely lovely. But I can understand if they are having a bad day and taking it out on the customers because the owner is the biggest sulk-face scumbag I've ever met. She hasn't got the first clue in how to run a friendly business for the customers and literally behaves as if she's doing you a favor for letting you into the restaurant. To top it off, she put her own name on the receipt and threw it on the table without even saying a word and simply walked off. I noticed that the service was inclusive int he bill and found it a bit odd that the owner should use her own name on the receipt, when the lovely waitress who served us all night should be getting the tip. After some investigation I realized that the owner does this on a regular basis, as her overpriced fish dishes are enough of a profit in her mind, and she needs to bank on the tip money that these poor hard working waiters have earned all night! So even though I wouldn't go back because of the prices, I will definitely never go back because of the owner who made us feel uncomfortable with her miserable expressions, rude attitude, and scummy cheating behavior. She needs to go and learn some hospitality and business skilss!
Yummy Fish! Delicious mash, superb steak, and wonderful service on a Sunday Evening in May too! I've been to Fish! In Borough Market before and loved their salmon and hot salsa sauce. The portions are sufficient and delicious and the naughty chocolate pud is just the right size for a treat. I highly recommend Fish! restaurant all year round!
I've been to Fish!Restaurant a few times now and have enjoyed every visit. On one occasion when we hadn't booked and the restaurant was busy we sat in the seats around the kitchen area - it was interesting to see all the work going on behind the scenes.
People who hadn't been to Fish!Restaurant before were impressed - those of us who had ordered the fish had good sized portions. Considering this was a Saturday night and the restaurant was full I found the service to be very good. And the quality of the food was excellent too. From the comments I've had from my friends, I think they will be visiting Fish!Restaurant again.
I have eaten at fish!restaurant three times so I really have given it a go. I've found the service very hit and miss and they serve you, say mussels in a sauce, and don't bother about bringing you a spoon or something to wipe your hands with.
Having said this, the real problem I have with fish!restaurant is with the quality of the food -I almost feel they take the 'seconds' from the fishmonger. The oyster I had were absolutely awful - I have had better from the fish stall at the farmers market. They were so small and dry and I was not even given the correct dressings etc. I had a seat the third time at the bar so you could see the food being prepared/cooked and it is simply thrown on the plate.
If you really like fish you will be extremely disappointed. The staff are friendly enough but it is not a cheap place and the food really is not good. I shall never go back to fish!restaurant.
I love the way Fish! have the exclamation mark after the name. So much in fact that every time I walk past I shout Fish! as loud as I can. Obviously this isn't helping my street cred, but it does amuse me greatly.
