The ViewLondon Review
In the heart of one of the most chic shopping streets in London – Marylebone High Street – FishWorks is one of a chain of restaurants in England.
The Venue
The Marylebone branch of FishWorks is the winner of the Best Fish Restaurant prize for the ITV London Restaurant Awards 2005. FishWorks is not only a restaurant but is also home to a cooking school and a traditional fishmonger counter. A wide variety of fresh fish are displayed on ice in the shop at the front of the restaurant and are bought by locals and passers-by.
The Atmosphere
The restaurant is spacious, light and airy and decorated in a modern cafe style with wooden floors and tables. The waitresses are very attentive and are happy to make recommendations.
The Food
Tasty appetisers of fresh taramasalata and bread are served before your meal and there is a range of delicious starters to choose from such as scallops, which are delicious and exquisitely presented in their shells. There is also a good selection of side dishes to go with your fish, including food like new potatoes with mint and butter, and spinach with garlic.
The Drink
A wide variety of wines are on offer including a list of champagnes and cava. There is an interesting list of red wines that marry very well with fish, thus breaking away from the traditional view that you should always drink white wine with fish.
The Last Word
The philsophy at FishWorks is to use fresh produce prepared and cooked simply, and it seems to be very effective. If you love seafood, this restaurant is definitely worth a try.
