The ViewLondon Review
Fox @ Excel is a nice bar conveniently located next to Custom House DLR and the Excel Centre – great for locals, tourists and Excel visitors, it’s a fine choice for chilling out after a long day.The VenueThe Fox @ Excel is a well-spaced out, large bar that is divided up into three main sections – the smaller upstairs bar, the downstairs main bar with large TV screens and the restaurant. This is great for when they have a band playing or are holding one of their regular premiership football screenings. All the fans sit downstairs on the many seats by the large number of screens – including a large projector screen – to cheer on their favourite team while people who want to escape can go upstairs where smaller TV screens show the same games but music plays in the background. The restaurant is well separated from the bar, so even during matches you’re in relative tranquillity to enjoy your meal.
The AtmosphereThere isn’t a thriving atmosphere at this bar except for when sporting events are being shown. On the whole it’s chilled out and could even be accused of being a bit dull. However, it really shines during football games and in the summer, when they open up the double doors and put out chairs and tables for customers to enjoy the sun and views of the nearby dock, Britannia Village and the Excel Centre.
The FoodThe food at the Fox @ Excel is pretty average – average in price, average in quality. The bar serves a selection of food that the restaurant provides and is your typical wetherspoon-style fare. The burgers are nice, but nothing special, and it’s good as an accompaniment to a night out – just don’t make the trip especially.
The DrinkThe drinks at Fox @ Excel are reasonable. They have a large choice of beers and spirits and a wine menu. The bars are well served and, even during busy times, you never have to wait long for a drink, which is a breath of fresh air.
The Last WordA good bar for locals and visitors to the Excel, but not worth making the journey if you don’t live in or visit the Docklands.
