I couldn't agree with the last review more!!! Friends of mine is getting one star but only because there isn't the option of minus stars. I have never been in a bar where the management are do hostile and aggressive that not only did I feel the need to leave but to write this review to spread the word. For what was meant to be a nice evening out, I left friends of mine ever do deflated and confused at why the angry little owner was so hostile. Not only would I give friends of mine a total wide berth, it actually appears that the rest of beckenham has already realised this. With cheap flimsy decor and a few aging 80's gangster wannabes, this is not the chic establishment it's attempted to pretend to be! Not a fun relaxed establishment! Do not waste a penny in this jumped upJoint. On plus however, the door staff are adorable! Kind, friendly and greet you with a smile! :-)
Oh dear, this place is so totally naff. Give it a wide berth, 90's pretentiousness with decor to match. We don't have much in the way of this kind of place in Beckenham (and let's face it, there's always one) so the proprietors think they are doing us a favour. Really rude 'hostess' too. Check out their website for an insight into how great they think they are and trust me the reverse is true. Food & cocktails like Marks & Sparks/Tesco finest fare. Totally rubbish.
atmosphere and food amazing - chilled out music and slowly progresses into upbeat house tunes ! love the platters to share and lunch/early evening meal deal. fabulous place to chill, catch up and get ready for the weekend !! can't wait to return, Belinda

I've just moved to Beckenham from Clapham and to be honest I was a bit worried I was going to miss the good bars & restaurants that used to be my regular haunts. First time I went to Friends of Mine I was really impressed and now I eat there pretty much every week.
I think its independently owned so as its not part of a big faceless chain you get a really friendly and personal service from their staff. Its great to have such a stylish bar that serves great food & cocktails on my doorstep - I highly recommend!!
Friends of Mine is a really good looking bar and the food is nice however I've been there a few times and they never get it quite right. The service is mediocre however nice the staff may be. They never tell you if anything is off the menu so you spend ages choosing only to find they don't have it. We went for breakfast the other day, very nice, but no orange juice. How can you not have OJ when you're serving breakfast?? They bring the coffee first then you've drunk it by the time the breakfast arrives or have to order another one (deliberate perhaps?) Another time we all wanted the burger (which is really good) and they had one left - but failed to tell us - at the beginning of lunch service. Just think it's really badly managed - definite room for improvement!!
Praise the lord - Friends of Mine is back! It was closed for 6 months due to a fire but with extensive refurbishment it opened again in March '07. A lot of the reviews pre-date the fire but I went there on a girls night out last Saturday and can't wait to go back again. It looks the bees knees, really modern, funky decor serving any drink that takes your fancy in stylish surroundings.
It's the classiest place I know, filled with a glamorous no trouble crowd aged late twenties/early thirties who are just out to have a good time in plush surroundings. The food is superb, the staff are friendly and attentive so you can't fault the service. I definitely recommend to anyone who lives in SE London/Kent that they give it a go, and I can assure you that once tried it will be a firm favourite.
P.S to keep a nice clientele they have a strict dress code so definitely dress to impress!
My wife and I went for a meal at Friends of Mine last week and had a lovely evening. The service was excellent and the food delicious.
We definitely intend to head back to Friends of Mine soon.
Friends of Mine? They’re all friends of mine now. Well, those who were graced with my presence last Friday are. I think. I’m not sure whether it was over indulgence or simply my extravagantly impressive social skills but everyone seemed to be willing to have a nice natter, something that is very refreshing for stuffy old London.
The drinks are pretty good (and well priced) and served by friendly staff so please, feel free to come and say hello to the Friends of Mine!
Friends of Mine is a gorgeous bar and restaurant with a menu to die for. The bar is extremely busy at weekends, when all the twenty something girls and guys come out to play. The restaurant area is at the back of the bar, it can be a bit noisy at weekends but the food is worth it as its quite possibly some of the best I've had, outside of central London.
Unfortunately Friends of Mine is currently closed for a re-furbishment after a fire in the summer but is due to open again in the new year.
