It’s one of those tricky life conundrums, either sate that achingly sweet tooth or keep that svelte figure. But dither no more for help is at hand in the shape of Frog, Bayswater’s newest frozen yoghurt emporium.

The Venue
The imaginatively-named Frog (fr(ozen y)og(hurt) – geddit?) is an orange beacon of deliciousness which beckons the swarms of hot commuters, students and tourists who pour out of Bayswater tube station each day. The shopfront has welcoming hues of shocking orange and frog-green which is both quirky and inviting. Inside the cosy decor just explodes with colour, with bulbous orange and white lampshades and coloured stripes each with a catchphrase – “so good it yoghurts…” is a notable favourite.

The interior is dominated by the toppings counter which is filled with healthy and not-so healthy treats. The loosely-labelled dining area is merely two neon orange cuboids, each topped with a canister of extra sprinkles and surrounded by a handful of red drum-style stools, plus two tables outside in the nice weather. It’s comfortable but not so much that it will encourage the lounge-around-with-one-yoghurt-between-five brigade.

The Atmosphere
As well enticing Bayswater’s ever-growing tourist population, Frog is proving very popular with the students of W2, possibly due to the oh-so tempting buy-one-get-one-free offer to all those with a student ID card. The staff are exceptionally friendly and are more than happy to let you have a taste of the different flavours and suggest good variations of toppings. There’s some hip, nameless music squeaking out from behind the counter which only enhances its cheeky cool vibe.

The Food
Frog is following in the chilly footsteps of ice cream giants such as Ben & Jerry’s, Haagen-Dazs and Baskin Robbins by bringing fresh frozen yoghurt to our high streets. Thanks to its nutritional benefits and the nation’s growing obesity issues, frozen yoghurt is fast becoming popular as an indulgent alternative to ice cream. At Frog you can choose from natural, chocolate or green tea flavoured yoghurt (all of which are probiotic for extra incentive) plus occasional seasonal options, topped with a range of more than 30 healthy and not-so healthy toppings. Prices don’t seem cheap with a small tub of frozen yoghurt (any flavour) starting at £2.80 and toppings at 50p each, although considering the fresh fruit and branded chocolate it’s actually fairly reasonable.

The green tea yoghurt is fragrant, creamy and surprisingly very tea-like. It’s a great match for the sharp and sweet fresh pomegranate seeds which contrast well in flavour. The chocolate yoghurt is not overly chocolate-y, however it’s light and delicious with a definite cocoa after-taste. This one is ideal for the ‘naughty’ side of the toppings counter, featuring hot sauces, custard, Maltesers, teeny tiny Oreo cookies, Smarties and even pink shrimps all make for a crazy sweet-fest. If you are on the look out for a healthy alternative topping, a sprinkling of fresh blueberries will also work perfectly with the chocolate. Currently, the most popular combination is natural yoghurt topped with quarters of fresh strawberry, but for those looking for more of a crunch should try the natural yoghurt with granola, shaved coconut and honey. The sweet, crunchy granola gives the cool, fresh yoghurt a real bite and the sweet sticky honey and chewy coconut finish it off with an all-essential sugar rush.

The Drink
With drinks limited to just bottled water (£1) those with a thirst should try a yogshake (£3.80), a popular smoothie-style yoghurt drink which comes with two toppings of your choice.

The Last Word
For a healthy treat hop on down to Frog (groan…) in Bayswater where an indulgently delicious frozen dessert is almost as beneficial to your body as a total work-out.
