The ViewLondon Review
Getti is a warm and welcoming restaurant on Marylebone High Street serving intelligent cuisine in contemporary surroundings with a menu featuring flavours and styles from across the many regions of Italy.
The Venue
Getti’s clean interiors, vibrant blue walls and modern furnishings make the venue not dissimilar to a Pizza Express. The rustic charm of a typical Italian restaurant has not been adopted here. Instead the restaurant appears sleek and sophisticated, and in fact there’s not an amateur mural of an Italian coastline to be seen anywhere.
The Atmosphere
The staff are extremely focused and attentive – a direct result of the sheer volume of custom that spills through the door come lunchtime. This is an approach that although is welcome, does make one desire a smile or a friendly word now and then. Having said that, it is clear that Getti take their food extremely seriously and are dedicated to providing high standards with every dish brought from the kitchen. Unimposing music provides the backdrop to the relaxed conversations of the Marylebone faithful who flow happily through this bright and comfortable environment. The clientele ranges from isolated creatives with a book for company to office workers and retired couples who know a thing or two about refined dining in Marylebone.
The Food
The menu is a varied and interesting mix of styles that bring out the best in the ingredients used. For Antipasti, the oven baked globe artichoke stuffed with goat’s cheese will begin your three courses in spectacular style. Served on a bed of sharp-tasting radicchio sauteed with balsamic vinegar, the artichoke is baked to perfection with the soft and pure goat’s cheese melting in the mouth, combining to create a simply wondrous and immaculately presented starter. For the main, the pappardelle with slow roasted duck, porcini mushrooms, tarragon and spring onions is a different yet rewarding dish with succulent pieces of duck liberally distributed among a portion of perfectly cooked, moist and light pappardelle. The intense, earthy flavour of the porcini mushrooms serve as the perfect balance to this delectable dish. To finish, there are a number of tantalising options on the dessert menu including pear and toffee tart which is presented cold with the pear deliciously crunchy and juicy within the pastry walls, topped off with a smooth and rich chocolate sauce.
The Drink
Getti boast a number of exciting Italian wines – in fact you can see a splendid range of reds racked across the back wall of the establishment. The Pinot Grigio, a peculiar white wine made from red grapes, is a crisp and exciting tipple with just a hint of honey to the intoxicating aroma. Make your choice wisely because if everyone else around you is treating your dining experience so seriously, you should too.
The Last Word
Getti’s splendid interiors, stunning creations and prime location make lunchtime dining very comfortable here indeed; when it reaches two o’clock and the office starts calling you back, the desire to stay will be far too overwhelming.
