I know this is a "Londoner's guide to London", but even as a 'stateside person', I still wanted to comment on this restaurant. My mother and I visited Europe for the first time as part of her 80th birthday celebration. London was our first destination. A taxi driver told us about the Golden Hind.

We knew we had hit the jackpot when the owner called everyone by name as they entered the restaurant. The food was excellent. We have "authentic fish and chips" restaurants in Columbus, Ohio USA. They should send their chefs here for training. We were very pleased with the food, the portion sizes and given the exchange rate was a welcome bonus. What a gem.

The Golden Hind is a wonderful venue for fish and chips. This is the place to take visitors to show them how good fish and chips can be. They had a near perfect preparation with a very thin, crisp batter that would make Heston jealous. Take it from me, I am an expat Liverpudlian and am therefore an expert on all chippy matters.

The Golden Hind also do old fashioned school pud favourites, which we all enjoyed. The venue is unlicensed so BYO, and I do not think they charge corkage. To tell the truth we were so pleased we forgot to check the bill.

Give the Golden Hind a go if you're sick of fish in skanky caffs and takeaways. The Golden Hind is in a beautiful Art Deco building and there isn't a hair-netted dinner lady in sight.
Loved the food at Golden Hind, loved the staff, and loved the decor. Top marks.
