Recently went to Greig’s for an early work Christmas Party and was amazed at how good it was! Everyone had a brilliant night out and the food was superb, I had the steak which was cooked exactly how I asked and the chips were to die for. The staff responded well to all of the group’s dietary requirements and made us feel like nothing was too much to ask for – unlike a lot of places we have been to in this area. Everyone left with a smile on their face and was extremely happy, so much so that I have already booked our party for next year here!
great food, great wine and great service. there's not much more to add. highly recommend the lunch set menus as great value and big portions. the outside area in summer is lovely, too.
Great food! loved the waiter service. i recommended all of my family to try out the rump steak as the rich flavour almost had me wanting seconds! ( if it wasnt for the generous portion size :D) A place all Londoners should definately indulge in!
The worst food ever - could not finish our food even though we tried thinking of the price. Bad pub food with Mayfair price.
Service was hardly near the professional - I could see them trying - but trying is not good enough when we are forced to pay so much (service charge was automatically added, and when we were paying, the waiter asked us to add more tip on top of it, saying the added charge is for the restaurant - maybe true but we are not going to pay double service charge for lousy food and service!)
In total, everything was so bad, we were quite upset with the whole experience.
One of my friends booked a small private room at Greig's for her birthday party. We were a party of 14 and were seated in the Oak Room around a square table. The room is lovely and the staff even decorated it in a birthday theme.
We chose off a 3 course set menu and the food was lovely. It was almost too much food for us girls but delicious. I took tiger prawns in garlic butter and most of my friends had steak and everyone agreed with me that the food is great. Also the starters like trout and tomato mozzarella salad and the desserts were prepared to perfection.
The waiting staff was very attentive and friendly, my wine glass was never empty and before I could ask for something one of the waiters already offered it to me.
I am planning on coming back soon with my boyfriend. I know he will love the steak and chips!!
I go to Greig's quite often for lunches as I work around the corner and I always have a great meal. The set lunch is good value for money, very filling and the service is quick and efficient. The wine list is also very impressive and I've also taken my girlfriend there for dinner and she loved it.
I went to Greig's for Sunday roast the other week with my friends and we had a fantastic time. We got a nice table outside which was lovely as Greig's is on a quiet mews and there are no cars or people passing. The food was great, I had the roast beef, my friends had the Dover Sole and the fillet steak.
The food was great, the steak really tender and full of flavour, the fish was fresh and the roast beef was just like my grandma used to cook it. We also had a nice bottle of Chablis and we were allowed to sit outside all afternoon although we were the only people left.
The service was great, too. The waiting staff is young, friendly and always up for a chat yet professional. We all had a great time and we will definitely be back soon!
My sister and her husband came down to London on Friday and we wanted to go somewhere where we could dress up a little and have a meal somewhere a little more upmarket.... Suffice to say we chose Grieg's as the menu looked absolutely lovely... When we arrived we were a little suprised as to how empty it was, we were seated and given menus... This is where the disappointment started, my husband and my sister were given the lunch a la carte menu which obviously didnt contain the dinner menu... We were seated for around 15 mins when the waiter came to ask us if we required water, we then waited another 5-10 mins for him to come back to take our order from the wine menu.. The wine was superb but the rest of the evening took a major downturn... The waiter did not speak very good English and was rather invading our personal space in order to hear and understand what we were saying... My sister and myself ordered the Brie in redcurrant sauce and my husband had the prawn cocktail.. the prawns were frozen and the supposed redcurrant sauce was anything but... I wont go into details but we couldnt eat the starter as it contained rhubarb, (which my sister does not like)... We asked to speak to the manager to complain... he appeared at our table and I stated that what I had ordered was not what was on the menu, he then tried to justify that the sauce was a mixture of different fruits as if it was ok... we were more than suprised I can tell you.. The main courses arrived and looked ok but mine was absolutely disgusting, it was too salty and I could not eat it.. I spoke to the manager again and was not really offered an alternative or a proper apology, after my plate had been taken away the waiter dropped my fork down my husbands back, this was unbelievable and again hardly an apology.. This restaraunts service and food were absolutely disgusting and would definately not recommend it to anyone. Considering the placement and pricing of this restaurant we would have expected more.
I visited Greig's on a Saturday evening with my boyfriend. As it was his birthday I wanted to treat him to a nice steak and I obviously didn't tell him about the 50% discount I got on the bill.
We both had one of the best evenings ever. Our starters (deep fried brie and prawn cocktail) were delicious and huge portions. But then the mains arrived (fillet steak and surf & turf) and we thought we went straight to heaven. The meat was so tender, juicy with such a nice flavour, those were really one of the best steaks in London.
The chips were lovely, we couldn't even eat dessert because we were too full!
The service was great too and the restaurant has a really nice and romantic atmosphere - perfect for a date! And because of the 50% discount there was really only the wine left to pay...
It is not often that I feel the need to write a glowing report on a restaurant. However the team, at Greig’s definitely derive this praise, from the very moment I started planning my event, a private diner for 35 senior officials, they ticked all the boxes, with listening to my wishes and soothing my worries they managed to take away all the stresses and anxieties that I would normally feel in planning a large event. We created a menu to suit the varying dietary requirements of the party with 3 choices per course which is a rarity in most top end London restaurants where you normal all have to have the same dish. The evening started perfectly with a champagne drinks reception in their small bar area as guests where told to arrive between 7.30 and 8.They attended all of our needs including printing of personalised menus and making place cards. The staff were impeccable in manner and worked to the highest really making sure the night went without a hitch. The personal touch was felt all evening from everyone, the quality and value of the food was great and they really made an effort to make sure that everyone was satisfied. I will definitely be using Greig’s to organise more parties in the foreseeable future. A huge thank you to the highly recommended Greigs Team.
It was a reunion of sorts when my friends and I met up at Greig’s last week. It was a fun evening and we indulged in some fine wine, great food and our waiters made us feel very welcome and who looked after us to the finest detail.
I haven’t had a steak as good as at Greig’s – not in recent years anyway. There were only 8 of us but each steak came out perfectly good and garnished identically. What is also great is that the sauce is served on the side so you can have as much as you want ……!
Traditional English desserts followed, fruit crumble, bread and butter pudding, strawberries and cream. They were all delicious and for some too generous a portion.
I for one enjoyed the evening and I know we’ll all be back there soon.
I had the same set menu as Robin but on a later occasion. The starter of tomato and mozarella was uninspired. Lots of it but ice cold and bland. The main course was brocolli "pie" or was it spinach? Whatever it was, it was tasteless. Even if it was shop bought, they do not know how to microwave it. Utterly awful. I know they specialise in meat, but they could have made an effort. And there was no excuse for the bad vegetables. The sprouts were cold and hard. The other vegetables were sad looking and tasteless. The only good thing were the chips. The ice cream was fine but I say that in comparison with what went before. So £27-50 plus service for one of the worst meals I have ever tasted. If I could give Greig's no stars I would.
I went there using my viewlondon card. I would say it was ok velue for the price we payed (50%), however if we was going to pay full price I would have been extremly disappointed.
We had a mix grill platter but they didn't have the lamb so we had to choose something instead, but they didn't have what we choose either... the waiter wasn't knowledgable nor helpful and the service was very very slow, we were waiting 45 minutes for the food!
I am giving it 2 stars because it was an ok dinner for an ok price (half price) but I wouldn't recommend this place and I won't be going back...
It may be that, as a fairly large party of 11, we were treated differently to regular diners, but I would not recommend this place to anyone.
We went for the set menu that was priced £27.95 for three courses - but it can't have cost them more than £5 for the awful food they served.
I had tomato and mozzarella salad (large tomato, ball of mozzarella, olive oil) followed by the "vegetable flan" (a whole shop-bought broccolli quiche - probably from a supermarket basics range - with a few fried mushrooms and half a grilled tomato) which came with chips (definitely not hand cut) and then finally the "White Lady ice cream" (vanilla ice cream with squirty cream and chocolate sauce from a packet). Need I say more??
The others in my party were similarly disappointed with their steaks, fish and prawns and we couldn't have been made to feel more unwelcome if the staff had tried.
Especially when we refused to pay the full, enormous, optional service charge that they tried to add on.
Perhaps we weren't posh enough or rich enough for them to feel we deserved treating with respect, but that is no excuse. Don't go - there are far nicer places out there that don't serve supermarket quiche!
We visited greigs grill last week end for the first time, as my Italian friends Friends was over for the week end and wanted to go to a typical English's restaurant, we found this by chance looking up our taste london book, and came across greigs so phoned and booked a table.
All i can say from the moment we walked in everything was to perfection sevice tables perfectly set, glasses sparkling and the portions were enormous and cooked to perfection I had to wait for ,my sea bass to be baked about 20 minutes or more but well worth the wait also a 16 oz steak cooked as describled for each taste and chips that were fresh not frozen a nice change, all I can sy is that I/we will certainly be returning a d cannot wait, they also go a sunday roast and set luncheon menus but the a la carte is the best also onr of the finest wine selections with bin numbers. This restaurant is off the beaten track and is not for passing trade, am so pleased we found it thanks to taste london, want t know more please feel free to email to me.
this is not to be missed
I organised a surprise birthday for my best friend at Greig's Grill just a couple of weeks ago.
I cannot express in words how helpful and delightful all the staff there were from the very moment i called up to enquire.
They helped me pick out an absolutely delicious set menu which catered for all different tastes.
From the moment my friend walked into the restaurant i could see that she was impressed, not surprising, as the restaurant is just a picture of sheer class.
The starters were all stunning. I personally had the deep fried brie, which was absolutely beautiful.
So of course i was looking forward to the main course, and i was not disappointed. My steak was cooked to perfection, and all those attending agreed that all the food was cooked to an extremely high standard.
By this point i was completely full and could not eat a bite more, but when the desserts came out, i just could not resist as they looked amazing and tasted even better.
All in all i could not have chosen a restaurant with better food for this special occasion.
Throughout the whole evening the staff were so friendly. Never have i met such polite and delightful staff as those working in greigs.
I am so lucky to have found this restaurant as it provided us with everything we needed: delicious food, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.
My friend could not stop thanking me for the evening and all those attending were just jealous that i found this place first.
i just want to say a big thankyou to all those working in Greig's for that perfect evening and i will definately be paying a visit very soon.
Greigs looks lovely from the outside and lured us in when the Pizza Express across the road was full, our stomachs were growling and our lunch hour was wasting away!
Warning signals should have gone off when, on a lovely sunny Friday lunchtime the place was empty....and I mean DEAD - we were the only customers, outnumbered 3:1 by staff!
The food was lack-lustre at say the least; We were served soup that reminded me of the scene in Oliver where he begs for more gruel (only utter starvation and abuse at the hands of a 19th Century orphanage would cause you to beg for more of what we were served) and overcooked (or was that undercooked- they were that unidentifiable) “home cooked” chips served on the side of greasy salmon!
Although the staff were friendly and polite, they forcibly needed removing from the little groups they huddled in by the till to serve us, clear dishes and bring us the bill.
All in all, the surroundings of Greigs is lovely – but I urge you to visit one of the many other (busy) restaurants and pubs in the same road rather than waste your time and money in this one.
Great food, good service! Will be back.
Thank you to all the staff of Greigs for looking after us on Sunday night.
We were in town for the London Marathon earlier that day and had over 30 people in our party for what was the wrap up to the weekend.
A very enjoyable evening was had by all who attended in the Main Room and we certainly look forward to returning at a future date.
Thanks
A great evening spent with my fiance last night at Greig’s. Traditional English food in central London. Smart surroundings and not at silly prices. The service was great and made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived.
I enjoyed the steak. I love a good steak and I wasn’t disppointed at Greig’s. My partner had the seabass and was equally happy. It was all in all a lovely evening.
We’ve both agreed that we must return again soon.
I want to express my appreciation of the service we received yesterday evening when we dined at Alistair Greig's Grill in celebration of our 50th anniversary.
The glass of champagne made a wonderful start to the evening, and the meal could not have been better.
We were looked after in exemplary fashion by the two young French students who were on duty. Thank you very much Alistair Greig's Grill. I recommend it to everybody.
Alistair Greig's Grill is too awful for words. My last experience at Alistair Greig's Grill was the worst I have experienced for years. A rubbish wine list, from which the sub-£40.00 wines were undrinkable. Food that was 'cooked' by an incompetent and was consequently disgusting. Dessert that was smeared in tinned jam and was sent back.
We were given a large pair of rusty kitchen scissors to cut the cigars. Waiters that I had to venture into the kitchen to find. We cancelled the coffees, cigars and cognacs, removed the service charge from the bill and will never return.
Around £380.00 for five diners for utter rubbish. This type of rip-off nonsense should be closed down. Please don't be a victim.
Alistair Greig's Grill is quality! Great food, great service. This is a small cosy place with a traditional British menu. Well worth the price you pay! I recommend Alistair Greig's to all my friends.
