The ViewLondon Review
Grill and Greens sits within the huge Whole Foods Market and offers some pretty good, quick food that will certainly keep the majority very happy indeed. The VenueGrill and Greens is one of the many stalls that offer food in what can best be described as The Whole Foods Market canteen, where different cuisines from all over the world peddle their wares, attempting to entice the passing customers making their way round the food hall. Most of the many eateries on the first floor are situated within this format, where a large, yet sometimes limited area in the middle of the room seats diners. Consequently you can expect to fight for space on busy days but at quieter times you might just have to vie with a shopping bag or two to get a seat.
The AtmosphereGiven the location of The Whole Foods Market you get the impression that most visitors aren’t scared of splashing the cash but there’s a real mix, from Sloane Rangers to inquisitive foodies. Grill and Greens is indicative as it serves up good quality quick food that’s not massively expensive, so ideal for those just looking for a tasty lunch. The quick turn around and the canteen style feel means that it’s a busy, vibrant place to eat but perhaps not one where you’d sit and while away the afternoon in comfort.
The FoodAs the name suggests it’s pretty much grilled meats with crisp salads and little else. As befitting the store itself the ingredients are organic and of excellent quality and everything is cooked from fresh right in front of you. The grilled beef and blue cheese salad unites two old favourites nicely, with char-grilled beef complementing crumbly stilton, mixed in well with a crunchy salad of lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes, onion and runner beans. The tender beef is cooked to order and has a delicious char-grilled taste that goes especially well with the lighter elements of the salad. Vegetarian options are also available with a mixed side salad with goat’s cheese being of particular note, but carnivores will take most from this stall, especially burger fans – the Mammoth Burger is, indeed, mammoth and blessed with a sensational tangy relish.
The DrinkDue to the nature of the eateries in this section, drinks are not served directly from the individual stalls, they can be found just before the tills but there is a good range on offer. You can find organic juices, smoothies, fancy waters and more, as well as all the old carbonated favourites so everybody should be well catered for on the drinks front.
The Last WordDespite the communal eating arrangements not offering the best atmosphere in which to dine, Grill and Greens offers up just what most people like for lunch – excellent food, speedily done.
