We booked a table through last minute for Valentine's Day and they really did not disappoint. From the very friendly welcome when we arrived (about 15 minutes late!), to the chocolates as we left the restaurant almost last - the service was fautless. The special was a four course meal and the food was fantastic. Our starters (Mushroom soup with Truffle oil/Samosa with Apple/Celery Raita) was just right portion wise and tasted good. Course 2 was a Champagne sorbet - fantastic for cleansing the palette again, very tasty.

Our mains were really, really nice - Pollack (fish) with Pancetta and white beans / Chicken in Tangier sauce with Cous Cous. Portion sizes were good, food was hot and very well presented. Dessert did not dissappoint either with Strawberry Fool with homemade shortbread and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce.

We just about had the room. The whole set up was lovely - silver stars sprinkled on the table; a near perfect red rose in the vase; well lit so as to promote some intimacy without stumbling about in the dark and staff who thought carefully about when to interrupt, apologised for even the slightest delay and seemed happy to serve you - something that seems to be a bit of a premium these days! And at £25 per head with a glass of wine - this was definitely the way to do credit crunch Valentine's!We were sold and will definitely go back on a bog standard non Valentiney-type day!

I was struck by Harlequin’s airy, open, modern ambience, there are 50 covers so the restaurant is large but it has been laid out to create pleasant and discreet areas.

The food was good if not exceptional; of the three starters we tried, we favoured Seared duck foie gras with caramelised flat peach on crisp crouton and Wild mushroom & truffle risotto served with poached free-range egg sprinkled with soft herbs which was very tasty, the rice was cooked to perfection. We also sampled Home-cured salmon gravadlax with crème fraiche, garnished with warm sourdough. The influence is more "Brasserie du Monde" with some dishes coming from different continent.

I was pleased with my main course Rump of romney marsh lamb layered on vegetable & bean cassoulet finished with reduced pan juices; the meat was especially tender and cooked to my liking.

My friend enjoyed his Fillet of diver-caught plaice resting on crab-infused risotto served with fresh tomato & chervil dressing.

Of our desserts, the best was Banana fritters with butterscotch sauce & rum & raisin ice cream; my Home-made crème brulee served with shortbread rounds.

We noted that the set menu offering a choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts looks good value at £16.95 for two courses and £19.95 for three. Perfect choice for a pere theater dinner next to Holborn, the Strand and Covent Garden (300 meters).

On appearance, this is what we would recommend. Unsurprisingly, this accounts for 50% of orders. Ordering a-la-carte you should expect to pay around £20 per head excluding drinks. (10 starters, 12 main courses and 10 desserts).

The wine menu is wild compaling some new world wine, including Argentina and some real classic like the amazing Saint Emilion.

The restaurant is open daily
