The ViewLondon Review
Always packed - with good reason - Harp adds an untouched traditionalism to the heart of London’s tourist centre. The VenueBetween Leicester Square and Covent Garden sits Harp - a small but pretty pub that appeals to all types of people.
Although it isn’t large, there is additional seating in an upstairs room and plenty of big windows at the front that let in natural light and open onto William IV Street. Harp is always spotless and the decor features an impressive range of portraits and mirrors that completely cover the walls.
The AtmosphereWith bar staff who couldn’t be more friendly and patrons to match, Harp surprises with a unique charm that most Central London pubs have lost. Popular with Londoners and seen by many as a ‘real pub’, it attracts locals, city workers and artistic types from nearby theatres, but manages to avoid being a magnet for tourists.
They draw in a large and vibrant crowd, which means getting a seat can be difficult. Despite being packed in, guests are always in high spirits and the pub is always full of laughter.
The FoodThe kitchen serves award-winning sausages during the day, cooked in front of you on the bar and served with a baguette and onions. The choice ranges from the traditional pork and leek to the more exotic wild boar, and the menu changes daily. These are full of flavour and very well priced.
The DrinkThere is a great variety of real ales and ciders on offer, and this contributes to the pub’s success. With an impressive range of guest ales that are regularly changed and pipes that are consistently cleaned, the beer is always a winner.
The other drinks are reasonably priced for the area and there is an adequate selection available. If there is any problem with either the food or drink then the staff are quick to act, apologetic and more than happy to give you a replacement.
The Last WordA hidden gem - perfect for those who want to get away from tourist traps and large chains - Harp never fails to impress.
