Went to this restaurant today. The sushi was average but what was appalling was the service. Very rude and unfriendly.

Awful experience!! The staff constantly watched over us whilst we ate, as my partner had ordered the buffet option and i had ordered from the menu. (they said i could not share any of his food), to be honest we couldnt even eat what we had ordered as they made us fel so uncomfortable, and when i spoke to the manager about this, they did not even attempt to apologise.

They wont ever see me in one of their restaurants again!!

I went to Hi Sushi last night with a group of 8 people and had a really enjoyable experience.

We all thought this place was great value for money - the portions were large and the quality of the produce was of a high standard, which it needs to be if you are eating that type of food.

I'm reasonably fussy with hygiene standards, and I had no problems with this venue. It is cosy, comfortable and clean.

There is a 1 1/2 hour limit for eating the sushi, but that doesn't mean they boot you out as soon as your time is up - simply that you cannot order any additional food. We were allowed to continue with drinks beyond this time limit and didn't feel pressured to leave. That aside, I would defy anyone to still be eating sushi after an hour and a half!

The £5 charge for wastage seems common sense to me - obviously to stop people ordering a massive plate that they can't then finish.

And finally, the service - I found the staff friendly and accommodating throughout, and once we had ordered the food arrived in good time.

I will definitely be going back.

Hi Sushi Izakaya is small and cramped and not very clean unfortunately - a bad sign for a sushi restaurant. They have a Tasting Menu at £15 per head with unlimited cold sushi (only 5 portions at a time and a £5 charge for any wastage!) and a few hot items. And you only get an hour and a half! The sushi is ok - but very limited choice - but the hot items are dripping with oil and they are extremely stingy with their portions. The hot items can only be ordered once and their idea of a portion of fried squid for 2 people is 2 pieces! They then impose a compulsory service charge of 10% per person on the bill. You have to pay it whether you like their (low average) service or not! That tantamounts to cheating the customer. All in all an avoidable experience!
