The atmosphere of this restaurant is great. It is always very busy, so you should defo reserve in advance. The food is great, the service is great. The price is a bit high but definitely worth it if you like oysters!
The restaurant was amazing. staff was friendly. oysters were delicious. snails were very good as well as the desert. I would definitely go again
Hix Oyster and Chop House isn't that straightforward to find especially as I thought the restaurant was on Cowcross street and not on Greenhill Rents - so after 15 minutes of aimless wondering I did get there. Its has a fairly non-descript façade but the inside is like a busy French bistro. The menu is varied, as you would expect from Hix, with Ox cheek salad and veal kidneys , For my starter I plumped for razor clams cooked with wild boar which was a lovely combination with the wild boar adding much greater depth to the dish than your normal run of the mill lardon. For my main I went for the fillet cooked on the bone. It was fantastic and cooked perfectly. The service was very good. I suppose my only slight criticism was that our table was too small. Highly recommended.
I visted the establishment on 16th November 2008, the ambience and concept was good but the main course was very disappointing.
The beef was tough, the vegtables dripping in butter and the potatoes warmed up, I did complain and they dropped the price of a glass of wine, I went home hungery and dissatisfied
Incorrect starters served which set the tone for the evening. One pleasant female staff member, unfortunately let down by the overall experience. Dessert served late and pressured to finish quickly because staff wanted the table cleared. Also neglected to serve cheese and biscuits until prompted, despite it being written on the bottom of the menu. Manager was rude, negligent and incapable of listening to the above. Presumably exhausted from performing in a Saturday matinee somewhere, such was the level of unnecessary drama, colourful language and theatrics on show. Avoid.
