Absolutely terrible experience. I was really looking forward to going but the service was awful. The food had no flavour but somehow managed to be incredibly salty .... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
My boyfriend and I went to Huong Viet last night and had an awful time.
Despite half the restaurant being empty, we were shoved in a corner about a millimeter away from another table, so we pretty much had to shout to hear each other.
We were given no glasses, chopsticks or cutlery to eat our food with, and spent about ten minutes trying to get some from a surly waiter.
I ordered a mango kingfish dish, but it seems the kitchen were out of mango that night, so they cut up a few slices of apple and put them on the top in the hope I wouldn't notice.
Yes, the food is cheap and pretty tasty, but it's not worth the ordeal you have to go through to get it. I definitely won't be going back.
I used to like this place in spite of the poor service and cramped and dingy restaurant because it's cheap and local. Last time I went the service was as bad as ever, the food was way too salty, and I got food poisoning. Won't be going again.
Agreed, the Huong Viet is not the snazziest resturant in London, but they do keep the place clean and tidy. Most importantly the food is utterly marvellous, cheap as chips and totally delicious. The fried Pomfrit fish dish is my favourite but I have never eaten anything that disapointed.
If you want swanky flash food, go somewhere else. If you want sublime, honestly made, cheap Vietnamese food then go to the Huong Viet.
We went to Huong Viet today and were very dissapointed. The sanitary conditions were not the best, the dining hall and the tables were plain dirty. I would not recommend Huong Viet to anyone.
They pack 'em in like sardines at Huong-Viet. Which is good if you always wanted to be a small fish, not so good if you've got big elbows. Still, people are always queuing to eat at Huong-Viet, so maybe more people want to be small fish than you'd think.
