Having recently moved to the area, I'm delighted to have walked in to this restaurant! It has quickly become my favourite place to eat in London. The food is always absolutely delicious, the service impeccable and the atmosphere welcoming and homely. An absolute gem - I could not recommend this place more highly!

To go to Il Portico, one must know the story of how Mom and Dad started the restaurant ages ago and now it is run by their 3 young children (Paula, Francesca, and James). The atmosphere and food are so warm and welcoming that Il Portico Restaurant is a neighborhood favorite by most of Kensington. Our whole family, for the last 4 and a half years, have adored the place (even those who visit from United States) whether it is a noisy early kids' meal or a nice relaxing adult only night out, we are never disappointed by Il Portico. Absolutely love it!

If you like second rate and overpriced Italian food with service to match then Il Portico Restaurant is the place for you.


I recently dined there with three friends. Although not busy, the staff left us to wait 20 minutes before offering 3 menus, the fourth never appeared.

Over an hour later the food arrived. It was at least consistently underwhelming. We struggled to get basic service all evening until the bill arrived when the cocksure young waiter chose to instruct us which of my party should pay the bill. Inappropriate, embarrassing and far from funny.

The evening at Il Portico Restaurant cost £35 a head for a shared starter, plate of pasta and glass of wine and insulting service. Please think carefully if you want to eat there - there are so many good restaurants nearby that deserve your custom.

I have encountered better service in McDonald's? - ? - Today
A truly awful service from start to finish so much so that it impacted on the experience. First thing that was said is "are you going to leave by 9:00" Which I thought very rude. A request was made for food that never arrived! and the Bill was incorrectly calculated,Needles to say I did not feel like leaving a tip. on account of this experience it has to be said that Il Portico cannot even get the basics right.
Food would have been good if it had cost half the price but I can't see how it justified the price charged. overall I found the experience pretentious and the surroundings somber. I will not visit again and would certainly not advise anyone else to do so

I’m so totally in love with Il Portico. If it were a bloke I’d marry it. Unfortunately it’s not though, it’s a restaurant. Still, I’d happily spend my twilight years with Il Portico rather than some farty old bloke anyway.
