I used to visit London like once-twice per month. Always tried to visit Imperial China. It is really good place. I have been there like fifteen times over two years. I have traveled a lot around Europe and this is definitely one of the best places overall. Well, it is chinese place and you cannot expect cold-top-class service. The waiters are never too-friendly and they do not become too familiar. I like it. I have never managed to eat all the food they brought and it was really delicious. I have had business meetings there and we went with family as well. The place is always full and it is better to book in advance. I cannot remember food names but try those traditional chinese dishes and wont regret. Really disappointed by previous comments. Arny

Worst service - staff are rude and unhelpful. The overpriced food was lukewarm and not fresh. Portion size terrible. Overpriced drinks (£3.50 for a half lager!). AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Another poor experience in what looks a really nice place. As regards decor etc you cannot knock the place.

Based on this and high expectations went in with a mixed party, half Western & half Chinese. The service was just shocking.

Mixed the drinks up, mixed the food up and the waitress seemed totally uninterested. We then we had a big problem with the bill.

Based on a poor level of service, I crossed out the 'discretionary' tip amount on the bill, so that we were only paing the amount for the food.

Poor service does not merit a tip and so none was tendered. After giving the money to the waitress, the change came back short.

On calculating the discrepancy it was clear that they had had the audacity to take the service charge despite me stating categorically that this was to be 'NIL'.

On presenting myself at the front desk to register my complete dis-satisfaction I was told that they would be unable to do anything as the cashier had just gone on a break and no-one else would know where the paperwork was.

Clearly someone was taking the piss, which did nothing to remedy the situation. At this I stated that if the money that had been STOLEN was not refunded immediately I would call the police.

Suddenly, they were keen to find the bill and it appeared as if ny magic. I was then advised that there had been a misunderstanding and the service charge was refunded.

If the service was good, then they might well get a tip, but a discretionary service charge should be what it says!

If the service is poor, then I do not expect to pay, most especially when I have confirmed the amount to be NIL.

Shame really, as the restaurant is good and the food was pleasant. Simply poor service from surly, unintetested waiting staff.

I recently organised a hen party in one of the private karaoke rooms at Imperial China. I was a little nervous having read some not great reviews. But having had a brilliant time I wanted to put a good review up to counteract the less positive ones!

The food was fantastic. Some of the best chinese food I've ever had. The vegetarian and the one with food allergies (there is always one!) were very well looked after. Two less people turned up on the night and we were not charged for them (even though the small print says you will be). There was so much food and we did feel bad that so much of it went to waste. The house wine was very reasonable - £12.90 a bottle and was very drinkable. They left all the empty bottles on a side table - I guess this was in case anyone wanted to question the bill at the end but we felt no need (but I thought this was good). The staff and service were amazing. Very attentive and polite. They were a little quick clearing the plates away and ushering us out at end of the night. The place was very clean and very plush. The karaoke was great - very up-to-date and easy to use. All the other rooms seemed to be having a good a time as us. I (along with all the 25 strong hen party) were very impressed and no one had a bad thing to say about it. We had the £27.50 set menu and drank A LOT for 4 hours. The final bill worked out at £50 a head which we all thought was very reasonable.

I would heartily recommend this restaurant for any sort of party for the private rooms. And having sampled the food, I would say the a la carte menu must be great and will certainly be returning for a meal.

I had a meal in this restaurant before Christmas. I then spent two days in hospital with Salmonella poisoning and 10 of my work colleagues were also affected to varying degrees. My Christmas and New Year were ruined as a result.

Eat here at your peril !!!

Good Chinese food at a good price - Imperial China are onto a winner. If only more places understood the Imperial China concept, the world would be a better place. Amen.

The worst restaurant experience I had was yesterday at the Imperial China. We went for dim sum there for the first time, as we needed a change and we were attracted by the deco of the restaurant. From there on it all went wrong. The staff was unhelpful and looked seriously dumb. The spoons were covered with food and had to ask twice to have a clean one. We received a meat dish we never ordered. After 40 minutes of waiting for the rest of our dishes, we were told that they had run out of fish so could not provide one of the dishes we ordered. 20 minutes later, the last dish still had not arrived so I had to cancel it. When I asked for the bill, they said we would have to wait 10 minutes as their computers went down. Lido and Joy King Lau offer much better food and service.
