WORLDS WORST CHINESE RESTAURANT! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO EAT CHINESE FOOD £144 for:dimsums straight out of the chinese supermarket packet, squids (dubious that these were fresly prepared!) deep fried in oil (italian style) with chopped chillies (3 rings) dropped on the top at the end so that the dish masquerades as a chinese "Chillie, Salt and Pepper Squid (all I can say is that the chef must have come from a fast food Italian)On to the main course...No 36 "Slow Cooked Duck"...yupp it was unseasoned, broiled in no flavourand therefore tasteless, duck that was sliced then chucked on top of droopy cheap veg (we counted 2 slices of bamboo shoot and 4 tinned mushrooms) with a soya style sauce just poured over the top at the end...very authentic...NOT! And then keeping in with the English cooking style of this expensive restaurant, the No 42, Mongolian Lamb Skewers which were in fact 2 skewers with what has to be the TOUGHEST chunks of grilled lamb, again with no flavour, just chucked on a plate with about 2 table spoons of salty sauce (my guess is the soya mix) spooned over on the serving plate - makes my local greasy-joe Greek kebab house lamb kebabs seem like pieces of filet steak!! Then my dish...No 47 "Lamb Fillet" boasting to be stir fried with chillie and garlic...well, well, what can I say,...the chef must have accidentally tipped half a container of Five Spice Seasoning into the pan, because thats all that could be tasted in this pasty soya sauce dish - still, at least the five spices gave this dish a bit of a chinese flavour!! Finally, No 51 the Mah Po Tofu, cubes of tofu stired into sweet chillie sauce - YUCK.. they had not even heated the dish enough so that the tofu peices were tepid in a hot sauce. Needless to say we did not stay to order desert!! BE WARNED TOO that they add an "optional gratuity" automatically to your bill, so that if you don't notice it to have it taken off, as we didn't...you pay it! You pay for the location not the fo
Food was good and the service was first class for a lunchtime sitting. Portions are relatively small however atmosphere was good - would happily recommend to others to try. One of the best Chinese/Asian restaurants in the city
As a regular (you can make it a former regular now), I use to enjoy dining here after work with friends and arrange business parties.
The service never was good, almost unwelcoming but you could always overlook it with the great food that use to be served here. The food has gone down the drain (as of my last two visits in early December) and I most certainly won't be coming back here again!
Been here many times over the past 20 years that I have worked in the city. Just had a meal there that confirms that this place has gone downhill and they will not be seeing anymore of my custom.
The food was insipid, the service indifferent, they informed us after the starters arrived that the Peking Duck that we had ordered(and the main reason for our visit)was off the menu. They didnt seem to care-wish I had gone to The Ming Court instead.
Food is very nice but the portion sizes aren't that large. A starter and main course meals will fill you up but not completely. Meats and sides such as rice/noodles need to be ordered individually. The restaurant has a very nice interior throughout which is not expected from the outside view. Prices aren't cheap yet are not extortionate. A great hidden place in the city.
Good food - could be a bit cheaper for what it is but then there is not much competition for Chinese places in the City.
I have eaten at Imperial City soooo many times, I’m surprised they don’t set up a loyalty scheme just for me.
The food at Imperial City is so good, you just have to go.
