I have been to both branches of this restaurant, once each. I went to the Brick lane one first and absolutely loved the experience. The food was great and the service very polite and nice. It was not too much nosiy and we had a great time. So i invited a friend with his family to the Walthamstow branch. This turned out to be quite a disaster. Full of people with hardly any space to move. The food was still the same, though some of my desired dishes were missing and amazaingly, there was no dessert avaialable. The service was just ok, may be due to the sheer number of people in the restaurant. To top it all, we were asked to leave in not-so-polite words immediately after finished our meal, although we were deliberating to order something more yet. I had book 2 days in advance and i should have been warned that the rush hour means less time to spend together. I am never going back to the Walthamstow branch again.

after hearing masses of positive feedback from friends who have ate here previously - i decided to give this a place a go. in terms of quality of food, atmosphere, service and general overall experience - jungle braai was excellent. yes the seating can be arranged slightly better however that is me really trying to find a fault somewhere. staff are extremely attentive and the food is taste bud tingling (what the secret sauce is - i would love know!). it's only a 2min walk from east aldgate underground and is situated in the vibrant area of brick lane. a must go for steak lovers!!

We've been coming here since opening, but not as often as we would like, perhaps few times a year. It's a little out of the way for us. The service is always friendly, and wonderful - they are really sweet. The food is excellent, we particularly like the platter and the boerewors, it's a bargain. Once, we had to plead with them to stop serving us with little treats, we were too full and didn't want to waste the food. I've seen a couple of poor reviews around, and of course, not every restaurant can get it right every time, but some of these reviews were quite aggressively negative - in response, I can honestly say that we love coming to this restaurant for the food, the service, the decor is great and the restaurant is clean, which is apparently critical to some. It's delicious, just get yourself down there !

Whenever my stomach is rumbling;
I wander down Osborn Street in Brick Lane;
And step into Jungle Braai, the place for munching;
Lamb chops, Zulu burgers and Rump steak;
I lick all the plates and the chef’s face, Ramu, too;
The African delight has an exquisite taste;
It’s fresh, filling and won’t make you run to the loo;
Well prepared plentiful portions at reasonable rates

I have never been insulted and spoken to in such a rude manner. I came to Jungle Braai with 10 friends on the evening of Monday 5th December. We are a group of students and young professionals. It was the first time most of us had been there and had heard great things about the food.

The food was decent and the staff were mostly pleasant (the kitchen staff and waiters were lovely). However, the Manager and/or owner (who was most definitely in charge) was outrageously rude. When are food arrived, I specifically asked him to inform us what was what. He incorrectly confused two of the platters.

As soon as we realised the mistake, we informed him. A first he denied there had been a mistake. Eventually, he started pointing at our food and in the most patronising tone he said, "Do you know what chicken wings look like? Do you know what steak is?"

My friends and I tried to diffuse the situation but he became increasingly aggressive and began to raise his voice. At this point, when I asked him if he should be speaking to a customer in this way, he replied by saying "For you, yes I should".

We were calm and not looking to cause a fight. When we went to speak to him, he told us to get back because "For all I know you could be trying to steal my money from the cash register". I could not believe that a manager did not have even basic etiquette.

Unfortunately I have been very disappointed and will not be returning and nor will most of my friends unless we receive an explanation. It was shocking behaviour and tainted what would've.otherwise.been a great experience.

Further to my post above, I managed to speak to the owner of the premises on the phone who appeared to be a very sincere gentleman who listened to my complaints and dealt with them in a very mature and professional manner. I do believe his reassurances that the matter will be looked into and I hope that this won't happen again.

Just a quick note of appreciation to the boys at jungle braai, went there last week with my family and was looked after superbly. The food was quite wonderful, we enjoy steaks at home, but the lamb fillet steak and sauce was something quite unique. The kids were catered for nicely, the chefs made a delicious marinade for the wings, without too much spice. Service was nice, no hovering waiters, attentative when called. Thanks again for a special evening.

I placed an order, for delivery, from the Jungle Braai's Wood Street restaurant for the first time last night and was very impressed with the food. The chips were perfect, the pizza very well made and excellent value for money, better than Pizza Hut and Domino's. We will definitely be dining with them again!!

I was looking forward to a tasty BBQ meal like I used to have back home in South Africa at a braai - the Jungle Braai web site tells a story of wondrous travel, culinary delights and years of training - a nice tale but the food couldn't be further from the truth! My chicken burger had barely any flavour, which was then coated with a slice of processed cheese and drowned in mayo - is this the recipe taught by the "Wise Chief of the Mbtumbu Tribe"?.....may be there's a Tesco Metro in the "deepest jungle of Mother Africa" where he bought cheese slices and mayo, Lol.

And the lamb ribs are disgusting - full of fat - There's a reason why ribs served all over the world are pork - because they taste better. If you can't serve pork then don't offer ribs.

I suppose there was one good choice - the chips; they were golden, crispy and fluffy - a typical dish served at every braai!

Jungle Braai is an insult to the South African braai. Its as authentic as a Rolex from Thailand. Seriously, shop around and find some good dry rub and make your own BBQ and you will be closer to a South African braai than these fraudsters.

Dear nnad

Your complaint that you did not get pork ribs at this halal restaurant is simply laughable!

I suppose you will now go to a kosher restaurant for breakfast and demand to know why they do not serve bacon with their eggs!

If u love barbq sauce this is the place for you,however i loathe barbq sauce which is the base for their marinade on absoluteli every dish hence my eating experience was ruined by this one ingriedient.

When i approached the manager for clarification on why their is barbq sauce drizzled all over my lemon and garlic king prawn dish, i was given a rude and abrubt response "this is braii dont you know what braii is" repeated several times

And this was my first and last experience!

Jungle Braai does not use BBq sauce ! All marinades are home made without BBq sauce and made with original South African ingredients. There is no lemon and garlic king prawn dish on the menu ! There is no mention of Garlic on the menu on any dish ! I stress we do not use BBq sauce or Garlic. Read the other reviews, 99% customers are licking their fingers and enjoyed the customer experience. That's incredibly impressive ! Finally, the Manager did say sorry for the confusion and tried to calm down the situation but you refused to accept his humble apology and shouted him down, shame on you !

I took my husband and young son there for fathers day- was awful from beginning to end- awful atmosphere- no music- instead a TV playing the news rather loudly.... owner seemed annoyed that we did not know what we wanted to eat straight away! Zulu burger was mediocre- the Zulu sausage caused my husband an upset stomach! 3/4 through the meal the owner brought over a survey about how good our meal was and the bill- before we had even requested to pay; and then proceeded in taking my plate away before i had finished eating!!
Believe it or not I am usually an eternal optimist! Am just completely in shock about how bad the service and food of this establishment is and going here has just completely ruined fathers day afternoon!! After reading the reviews of Jungle Braai on here - which, shockingly, mostly seem to be good- we travelled an hour each way to get here and I am merely writing my views to prevent others doing the same !

Wow, what can I say! This place is an epicurean delight. I went with my brothers family who came from out of town for a few days. The service was extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, loved the marinated olives we were given on arrival. The food was simply superb and catered for the whole family's eclectic tastes, would really recommend the south African sausages whose name I cant pronounce, began with bore, although they were far from boring, quite unlike any sausages we've ever tasted. The menu was reasonably priced which let me be the hero by allowing the family what they liked!! We had several kids with us under 5 and when they started getting restless, they were treated to an impromptu 'drumming lesson' from one of the grillers in the kitchen on one of the many drums dotted around the place. Many many many thanks to all the staff for making our visit such a pleasant experience. Keep it up and will definitely be back with family again.

A memorable evening. Will most definitely be returning. Excellent customer service. Easily the most outstanding restaurant in Brick Lane. Food was of a very high standard and quality. Would recommend it especially for outings with the family. My children's needs were catered for. I was highly impressed with the service.

A peaceful family evening out turned into a horrible experience. The food tasted the same and too spicy for the young kids. The owner was really rude and argued with us when we complained the sweetcorn didnt taste right and when we found a large piece of plastic in a burger!
He continued to put up a fight when paying the bill - refusing to give a discount! We left him paying extra, just to prove a point. Do not think I will ever go back there. Ruined a farewell gathering of my dear brother. On a plus point - The chips were nice and the burgers. The waiters were plesant.. That was it-The owner ruined our evening!

Wow wow wow is all I can say, the actual restaurant was inspired by the Amazonian theme which I must say was beautiful and others must have agreed with me as the party next to ours descended upon taking pictures with the decor. The menu had lots of variety and was definitely recession proof (cheap and cheery). The food arrived promptly and magnificently presented, however that was nothing compared to the explosion of flavours it produced in my mouth. I have never enjoyed a meal as such, cooked to perfection. The customer service was spectacular, with the manager offering us the lunch time special even though technically we had just missed it, in addition we were offered a complimentary dessert which was simply fabulous. To conclude this is a must visit for families, groups, dates and business.

We went there this Sunday only to be shown to our table by a grumpy owner. I have heard great feedback about Jungle Braai so got 5 friend together and try it out. We were squeezed on a table for four with a extra chair on the end for the 5th even thou we are 5 big men. The restaurant was not busy with only 2 other tables occupied. But we can see the owner getting frustrated with the 3 tables he had. When we cam to order we asked the owner what he would recommended. He was very rude and said hurry up and order I don't have all day I need to take other orders. We calmly placed our order. We had a phone call form a friend to say he will be joining us so I asked the owner if we can sit on a table for 6. The owner replied: listen let your friend come first before I move you as I need the other table. I called the owner to say that I did not appreciate his unnecessary attitude only to get the following he came to my face: Listen before I place the food on the grill, there is the door, just get out. We immediately got up from our seat and as we were leaving a waiter apologised for the behavior of his boss. I would strongly advise do not try Jungle Braai, not because I have had a bad experience. Only because customers should not be treated this way. We took our time to visit the place only to be told to get out. That is not fair. Just to add were not rude or loud at any time and did not deserve to be treated this way. Jungle Braai is far to over rated, stay away. If you don't believe me then try it for yourself. You will be greeted by a fat owner who is very rude. Ask him a few questions and he will tell you to get out. Simple!

Visited with a couple of work mates following a recommendation from a friend. We were given a warm welcome by the owner who introduced us to the manager.. We ordered quite a bit but the dishes that stood out were the lamb chops and the borworst!

The sauce was brilliant and the meat cooked just right!

They had some interesting fruit drinks as well as Movenpick ice cream (last time i got any of this was in Egypt!)

Overall experience was brilliant and I would recommend to friends and family!

A lot more satisfying than many other more expensive restaurants than i have been to in previous weeks!

Jungle Braai in the heart of Brick Lane epitomises everything a first class steak out should be with mouth watering freshly grilled food, great sauces, the most awesome crispy salads combined with generous portions makes the number one place to eat.

The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and exudes the passion and enthusiasm of the owner who provides a personal touch to everything. A perfectionist in every sense of the word!

Each time I visit with my family there is always a hidden surprise and the management team always goes the extra mile to keep children entertained.

The decor is great with hand-painted mureil's of the Africa Savannah. With authentic African instruments including drums and the gentle rhythmic music from Africa. The owner has taken every step to bring the African experience to London. Its a sheer delight! Next time you visit have a go at the drums its great fun and the management team does not mind.

Together with the first class customer service combined with a waiter service that is personal and friendly I can say its only a matter of time before they are writing with rave reviews of this place from the most culinary critics in the restaurant business.

Been here 6 times now since opening, and have recommended many friends and family members. All of whom have loved it!
Absolutely brilliant food, healthy portions. Personal favourite is the Rump Steak (full of flavour) and the size is perfect. Lamb Chops go a treat too.
Fantastic selection of drinks.
Great ambience in the restaurant, the decor takes your breath away and really feels like your away from home - Love the painting.
Service is completely personal. Went initially with my own family and my 3 year old son found the chicken wings a tad bit spicy. Spoke to the owner who immediately arranged another portion without any spice - even gave my son a whole box full of toys to play with and keep him occupied!
Found all staff to be really friendly and warm. Even got to meet the chef, and the chef himself made a special little surprise when i informed him it was my sons birthday the following day!
Quick table arrangement made when i arrived one time with a party of 26 without making a prior booking.
Jungle Braai - Hats of to you, you really have filled that gap that was so needed to be filled. Many steak restaurants out there now but nothing can touch Jungle Braai.
Worth the travel from Deep South London and beyond!
See you again soon.

Went there on Friday night with my family,it was an awful experience,the food was rubbish,we ordered whole peri peri chicken and it was raw,pointed out to the manager and he thought it was ok,i asked him would you eat that,he wouldn`t comment.

I spoke to the owner of the restaurant and he was not helpful.The mistake we made was we should have pointed out while we were eating but we didn`t and he didn`t want to know.To make matters worse he even charged me for it.

I would never go back there again.

Jungle Braai is definitely the place if your in the mood for some real carnivore feast! The meat are all well cooked, the chicken is absolutely mouthwatering aswell as their wings..the only downside however is they are a little too generous on their smothering of the very tasty sauce, this may be individual preference as i believe that you should be able to taste the meat aswell. Ive been to their old branch in walthamstow which serves the same food but in a less modern decor..totally recommend for value for money and a hearty munch!

I eat out a lot and when I walked pass a place called Jungle Braai I was very curious to know what kind of food this place serves, I was a bit hesitant going inside as I am sure you all know if you been around restaurants in Brick Lane most places hound and force you to eat there not knowing what’s on the menu. Well I went inside and before I could say I just want to see the menu the waiter came over was very friendly and nice I said here the menu and take your time with a smile. I saw the menu looked amazing I immediately order starter and main course “o my goodness food came quick was very well presented and out of this world” dishes that I have only seen and tasted in top notch places in Dubai and NY not on Brick lane Steaks and chicken wings are the ones to try. Overall the entire place is clean good friendly service but most of all the food good. I have been back a few times with friends and family and they all loved it. If you’re travelling to East London this is the place to EAT.

I base my recommendations on three criteria's Service,quality of food,priceif a place had bad service or insincerity in their love for hospitality this can be picked up from a mile away and makes you wonder if their passion for food will be up to scratch. Funnily enough when entering the establishment I was greeted like I was expected and felt welcome and instantly at ease. The waiter recommended a few item on the menu to try and was easy to talk to and understood my needs immediately. The service was with a smile and with a passion to deliver a brilliant service.

The food was actually quite good, although I cant remember most of the fancy names the lamb chop starter with the slices of orange where brilliant and 5 starts within itself, who would have though orange and chops. The chicken wings where nice and well cooked but I would have preferred for them to be cooked a little bit more, I think the next time I go ill ask for this and see what happens. The steak! Well what can I say the only decent steak I have ever head was in Mauritius, Jungle Braai near tops that. Every other restaurant I have been to their steak tastes like cardboard, this was actually juice and soft.

In terms of deserts I actually didn't have enough room for desert and most places leave you disappointed, but what was presented to my friends looks quite nice and they all kept telling me to order the strawberry cheese cake. I think ill leave room for this next timein terms of price I really thought I would be looking at a heavy bill, but it worked out quite nice I had actually taken out too much money and was suppressed to have quite a bit left over after an evening meal in town on a Friday night.

I have been to many places where I have been charged stupid amounts for poor quality food. Lets hope Jungle Braai stays consistent in price and quality. Although I would like to give this a 5 its not quite La Porte Des Indes, but I guess for the price its quite a good l

Well Impressed. Not normally a steak man but went as a family and was pleasantly surprised. Lamb chops were perfect (and I'm very fussy with my chops!) They handled our large (18 people) group well considering there were loads of kids. Menu was just right for the kids and adults and the service was very family friendly. Excellent food and atmosphere. We had 1 of each of the steaks and they were delicious, I am now officially a Steak Man! The marinade on the whole chicken hits the taste buds bang on.
They'll be seeing me again soon, with all the kids!!
Highly recommended.
