I love this restaurant, the food is delicious, classic curries and some more interesting options all served without lashings of grease and food colouring!
The food is really reasonably priced and you get free poppadoms to start. The service is excellent, the staff are really attentive and friendly and give you good advice on what to choose.
They look after you well dishing out the first part of your meal and keeping you topped up with beer which is really nice.
I also really like the atmosphere, the music is relaxing and the rest of the customers tend to be easygoing, we always take our friends and parents there when they come and visit as it's a good place to enjoy a night out and a chat.
There's always a spare table so you don't need to book in advance, unless you're a big party in which case they'll happily move the tables around to accomodate you.
5 Stars Karnaphuli - perfect all round :)
this restaurant is absoloutely delicious. only bad criticisms is the small tables.
WOW!! this restaurant is great!, the food ever so tasty, the atmosphere ever so traditional, the lighting ever so romantic, the staff ever so helpful, the music ever so calm and soothing if I may say. The food aint even that expensive compared to other restaurants, whom cannot even compare in its qualities. This restaurant by far is the best I have been to on church street. I'll be looking foreward to going again.
for those who read this and do go then my recommendation is to have the Chicken Tikka Masalla with a peshwari naan or two. and ofcourse the Tandoori Chicken!!
As a British Asian I can tell a good curry house from a bad one. Karnaphuli is one of the best traditional curry houses I have found in London. The food is delicious, nearly as good as my mums, and the service is fantastic.
Karnaphuli is highly recommended for anyone wanting great food and service at a very good price.
This may be the worst Indian meal I have ever had. We were sat at a cramped table at Karnaphuli Restaurant so reading the menu whilst trying to pour a glass of water was impossible.
The food. We ordered tandoori king prawns to start. A few small prawns (no sign of a shell) arrived and were so covered with tandoori sauce it was hard to tell that they were prawns.
Food arrived and there was no room on table. I did not want a predetermined amount of rice and my main course dumped on my tepid plate. Only one naan arrived. The tikka massala were very odd. Full of coconut. More like a pasanda. I could not eat mine- one mouthful of coconut clad grisle was enough. I had half a naan dipped in a lukewarm veggie mush!
Complaints fell on deaf ears at Karnaphuli Restaurant. The lamb 'tikka masala' was taken off the bill. A terrible meal. I would never go to Karnaphuli Restaurant again.

We ordered tandoori king prawns to start - 5 small prawns (no sign of a shell) arrived and were so covered with tandoori sauce it was hard to tell that they were prawns. For main we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Tikka Masala, a Veg Curry and a mushroom rice. 2 naan breads were included with the tikka masalas. The food arrived but there was no room on the table, I didn't want a predetermined amount of rice and my main course dumped on my tepid plate. I had in mind a slow meal, perhaps sharing of food. But alas...only one nan arrived and the tikka massala were VERY ODD. Full of coconut...more like a pasanda. I could not eat mine - one mouthful of coconut clad grissle was enough. I had half a naan dipped in a lukewarm veggie mush!
My complaints at Karnaphuli fell on deaf ears - traditional Indian cookery and what did I know????? Eventually the lamb 'tikka masala' was taken off the bill. A terrible meal. Would NEVER go to Karnaphuli EVER.
Karnaphuli Restaurant is easily our favourite restaurant in London - we go there all the time.
The best thing I like about Karnaphuli Restaurant is that the food is delicious and is not full of horrible brightly coloured preservatives. The staff are lovely too.
Karnaphuli is Indian food at it's best - great food, great service, great prices. I had almost given up on finding a decent curry after several most disappointing nights out on Brick Lane and this place is just around the corner!
