Absolutely fantastic, very reasonable authentic Thai food.
Free spicy crackers and prawn crackers, free water, fresh flowers on every table, very attentive friendly staff, it's like being spoiled, well it is being spoiled at the prices they charge.
It's true, it's not a luxury restaurant, the interior is very basic, but it's not one of these pre-made-food-on-display places, everything is freshly made and you even get slices of fresh orange with your receipt when available (99% of the time) and you used to get fortune cookies as well (the waitress wasn't sure if they will be giving them out again or not). They have a large LCD TV with freeview, you can choose your channel. The tables are polished wood, the chairs are as well and some have cushions, it has a drinks "bar" and till are at the end. The restaurant is a bit narrow but comfortable & has a side room.
They can make any Thai dish you want even if it's not on the menu. I always have the beef Phad-Kee-Mao dish which used to be on their old menu but isn't any more (spicy beef served on wide egg noodles with vegetables and lots of chilli cooked with it, tastes so good)
I always have the chicken tom-yum (tom-yum gai) as my starter and the freshly made Thai iced tea with condensed milk (cha-yen) as my drink
It's not because the other dishes are bad (or even just worse), it's that these are my favourite Thai dishes, I have tried the rest and they are equally good but the soup is just amazing and the noodles are very filling and satisfyingly spicy, the chicken and beef are of very good quality.
Their £7.50 grilled sea-bass with spicy fish sauce is amazing, recently it was taqken off the specials menu but they still make it if you ask. They still do the spicy steamed sea-bass, also for £7.50. it's WHOLE sea-bass, head and all, and big ones as well.
It is a very reasonably priced, very reliable Thai restaurant in central London, just at the end of Earl's Court road where it meets Old Brompton road,
I had a great meal at the Krungtap, the food was excellent, plenty of flavour as well as spice. A really friendly place, I will be going back there again very soon.
