Following the reservation made three weeks ago with a groupon voucher, I went to Kumo with a friend on Saturday 3 March at 6:30pm. The shop was closed under the construction. How embarrassing and painful to see the shop closed without knowing the fact!! It was insane. Give me back the money! Nobody should go there!

i bought a groupon voucher a while back and decided to use it with my fiance last Friday, on Thursday night i decided to look kumo up online and see what reviews it has and it made me a bit nervous seeing some negative reviews here, we decided to give it a go and to be honest it was a pleasure from start to finish. i am not someone who is a regular on writing reviews but i thought kumo deserved this one and i have no idea what the negative ones are about!!!! the food was nice and cocktails were really nice, we had apple martini and the persian kiss and it was one of the best cocktails i have had, overall, 10/10 i know i will be back to kumo again its a hidden gem.

It was one of the worst experience. I was on a date, and we ended up having a very bad time, I felt extremely awkward and embarrassed to have brought my boyfriend there. The atmosphere of the place is not suitable for eating. In one sentence, it's a very badly designed night club with bad music where you have to sit on a super uncomfortable seat and eat sushi along hip hop music. The food was not satisfying both in taste and quantity, and please do not call it 'Japanese', I feel offended.Cocktails were bad quality too, which we had to pay a lot for.The service was bad too, and the card reader was not working so some customers had to leave and go to a cash machine to pay at the end of the meal. Most of the customers were on group on deal, and they all looked awkward and seemed to be thinking 'are we really EATING sushi in this hip hop night club?!'But the worst thing yet was the shirt of the waiter... If you serve food you have to be presentable.. Never go in this place!!! please don't do it!!!

Great location but do not go! Terrible service. I didn't even have a drink before had finished the meal. Perhaps that is because the portions are so small. Terrible seat - not sitting japan style or a normal seat - a halfway seat which was very uncomfortable for eating. Lots of wires running around the restaurant and chipped plates, dirty platters. I actually thought I might have been I'll today but thankfully not. Went 2
M&s later and picked up some decent food for dinner as a platter for 3 was just a few bites between 2. Cocktails only for this place for sure.

Another unhappy Groupon deal visitor to Kumo! We had reserved a table for 4 people at 7.30pm and arrived in plenty of time. Upon arrival we were told there would be a 'slight' delay and so we ordered some drinks at the bar and I kept asking how much longer we would have to wait. Eventually after about 40 mins we were told there had been a mix-up and our platter was going to be served at the bar. We waited another 20 minutes for the platter to arrive and when it did it was certainly not suitable for four people, in fact my daughter who is not a large eater said she could have eaten the whole platter by herself. I think we had about 3 pieces of sushi each. We then asked for our dessert 'platter' to be delivered, this came very quickly as it was only 4 small pieces of chocolate cake. Our whole meal had taken approximately 15 minutes to eat after waiting an hour for a table (which never materialised). On going through the restaurant to the toilet I noticed the meals of those who had obviously paid full price and it was a far cry from our paltry meal. In fact on the way home, my kids went into M&S and bought a sushi snackpack each to fill themselves up!I refused to pay for the drinks we had received and I certainly did not leave a tip!In addition we noticed that all of the people seated/standing in the bar were on voucher deals. I believe that if you have a voucher your table is not actually held for you - you get stuck in the bar and served a 'platter' if you are lucky. We noticed at least one couple walking out without paying for their expensive cocktails - they did not bother to wait for their table. The voucher was £29 for 4 persons and said it was worth £86. We worked out that the dishes we received were worth no more than the £29 in total and for that price we could have gone to Yo Sushi or Me Love Sushi or Sushi Mania and not been treated as second class citizens and received a proper meal.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! Booked this restaurant a week in advance after purchasing a voucher. Turned up at 6pm (the time of our booking and the time the restaurant was due to open) and it did not open, no-one answered door to explain and no note was left. By 6.45pm the restaurant had still not opened and we were still waiting outside the restaurant in the freezing cold after travelling all the way from Surrey. We had banged on the door, rang them in excess of 15 times and shouted through the letter box god knows how many times. We eventually gave up and ate at Layalina's down the road which I highly recommend. The next day I phoned Kumo to ask for an explanation which was they had health and safety issue's so closed and that they couldn't phone us as they lost our number (and apparently everyone else who waited with us). We then discussed compensation (a complimentary meal upto the value we had to spend elsewhere) to be told they would call back 2 days later which they did not. We then phoned again to be told they would call back in 2-3 days which they did not. We then phoned them again to be told they would call back in 10 minutes which they also did not do. Disgraceful customer service and will never recommend or contemplate booking a meal with them again.

Start to finish Kumo failed to provide the experience that I was expecting. After arriving promptly for our booking at 8pm we were assured that our table was being prepared and would be seated in the next 5 minutes....40 minutes later still perched at the bar watching the staff laugh and joke amongst themselves. At 8:45 we were seated and our order was taken, no surprise here but the set sushi platter arrived at 9:15...we had come to expect a wait by this point! The sushi was very good but the patter was more suitable for a couple than 4, after questioning the portion size we were met with hostility and denial that there was anything wrong with the food and the night as a whole. I would not be paid to go back to Kumo, that is 2 hours of my life I am not getting back.

Another unhappy kgb deal visitor to Kumo! We arrived, they hadn't reserved our table so we had to wait half an hour to be seated and then it took another 45 minutes for our platter to arrive and it certainly wasn't as big as the person sitting next to us who had ordered it off the menu for full price. Obviously when buying a voucher it was priced on the fact that it was off their menu so very misleading. We had to buy extra food to fill us both up. On a positive the food was really delicious but overall experience was disappointing so we won't be returning.

Had a very disappointing experience at Kumo from start to finish! I made a reservation for two online and no one responded, when I called the restaurant directly was met with hostility for not using their preferred method of accepting reservations. When we arrived the table was not ready and was asked to wait. Whilst we were waiting there were several staff passing by our table but no one asked if we wanted a drink. When we finally sat down the restaurant was freezing. I asked for a miso soup to warm up and the server had never heard of miso soup. The main course was a sushi platter for two that tasted no better than the grab-and-go sushi from Tescos. The music was so loud that several customers asked for it to be turned down. Our Groupon voucher included dessert but instead of being offered a choice from the dessert menu we got a piece of chocolate cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, both which had clearly come from a supermarket. This is one restaurant I will certainly never return to!

I went there with the Groupon Voucher, it was the worse sushi that I ever had in my life. The description in Groupon. Co. Uk was saying selection of fish, vege sushi. Etc etc, the sushi platte have no fish at all, all sushi were just the cheap stuffs, and it doesn't worth anything at all. That wasn't the worst part! I saw two girls who were on next table was complaining about the so called dessert and they didn't eat it but one girl used the fork to see what that 'ice-cream' like and put it down but not eating anything on the plate. And the waiter end up clear the table after they left, the waiter didn't realise the girls used the fork to touch the ice-cream and just gave us the same forks, the ice-cream mark was so clear on the fork! Got, not just the foods are horrible, even have no concepts in hygience! I will definitely not coming back again.

We went to Kumo on saturday night the 9th, we were 8 people and last minute had another group of 4 joining us. The manager shayan was very helpful and he managed to accommodate us all, at first when I walked in I wasn't sure as we never been in Kumo before and it wasnt what I had in mind, but we thought we give it a go, the staff were amazing they were really helpful and attentive and trust me I can be a difficult customer, we ordered cocktails and I must say they were amazing. We were told they use fresh fruit and it did reflect on the design and taste of cocktails. We ordered food and I went for grilled king prawn and my fav Californian role, I love japanese food and go to a lot of restaurants but I must say the food was perfect, the best californina I had for a while and the prawn was nicely cooked and looked amazing, we all had an amazing time and the music was great, over all 10/10, great food and cocktails, great ambiance, and excellent service, will def be back again.

Not at all worth it. I came to Kumo at the end of march using a voucher bought online. Having initially booked for 16 we realised there were more numbers so notified in advance that we would be adding heads, apparently this was fine until we arrived. I found it pretty difficult locating this hidden bar. There's just a door and a passage leading to stairs taking you down to the bar. We were crammed into a small area under the stairs and adjacent to the toilets. I really don't understand why they classify themselves as a restaurant, there's just about enough space to put your drink down on their so called tables. The staff were fine until we presented our vouchers. Management got involved and tried to refuse a few that we had. I recall one remark from the management regarding the vouchers "can't your friends afford the drinks" to which I was mortified - how does Kumo receive such positive reviews with such ill mannered management? Onto the subject of the platter. This was the reason we booked Kumo but being a sushi fan I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the platter served. The presentation was terrible, the rice was soggy, the fried food was just awful. I could've made better sushi at home! We had plenty of money we were willing to spend but decided to take our custom elsewhere. I don't know whether we were just unlucky but I have never in my life received such poor food and service. Steer cleer! Even with the offer it just isn't worth it.

It seems like I had the same experience as all the others who bought the kgb deal. We were given a mediocre sharing platter that is not even enough to feed 1, let alone 2-3 people. We were given the same explanation that they “consolidated” the platter so that it could fit on the small tables they have. Also, the wait staff were extremely rude to us and seemed to be condescending to us because we were using a voucher. There were other people there using the kgb voucher who were treated the same. We put that down to maybe that is the service of the bar, so we were ok to live with it… until a couple sat down next to us who were not using the voucher. Then the staff turned on the charm. They were served efficiently, and the staff were very polite and helpful. They ordered the sharing platter too – and what arrived was definitely not what we were offered on the kgb deal. The platter was about 3 times the size of ours (overflowing the table I might add), and looked really delicious with all manners of food that was not on our platter. I thought the point of the kgb deal is to attract new customers who might not have otherwised visited Kumo, but from the treatment of their kgb customers, I will certainly not be back, and I am sure others on the deal would agree.

I bought a kgb deal- sushi sharing platter. The place & atmosphere's pretty alright. Dim, cool background music and unique, albeit small. The waiters were polite and attentive, and my cocktail was really nice. My husband- who doesn't drink alchol, ordered a mocktail, with a pineapple & blackcurrent fruit on top. He didn't like the drink. He said it tasted like a whole mixture of fruits blended with coconut and he couldn't make out what it was. The platter- was a huge disappointment! There were just 2 sticks of bite sized chicken which was dry, and 2 small rows of meat sushi and another 2 small rows of sushi with asparagus. It certainly wasn't filling and the taste was mediocre. I now regret I bought 2 of these deals! The platter was such a huge disappointment! And we didn't get any fish nor squid as I had expected in the Platter.

Went to Kumo for a pre-theatre meal on a Saturday night. It was such a shame to walk out of the lovely sun outside and step downstairs into this basement bar. The decor is certainly suited to a bar, dim lighting, long lounge chairs with tiny low tables. We ordered the meat&seafood sushi platter and was basically given three maki rolls. Two were vege option and the other was a californian roll. The meat portion was four bite sized pieces of poached chicken on a toothpick, accompanied by soy sauce. All very average for a dish that is normally £40. Lucky for us, we had a voucher. We had two cocktails and both were just okay. I am confident there are more authentic and exciting Japanese restaurants out there. On a positive note, the staff were lovely.

Booked with kgb voucher (2 cocktails & platter for 2-3people)last night for 12 in advance as its my birthday only to get there and let them ruin it! I added 3 people extra and they pretended not to b aware when it was confirmed. Didn't want the extras as they seemed unhappy I brought them more customers. Staff were rude and incompetent. The waitress couldn't even spell had to copy word for word on menu wen when ordering? They wouldn't let us use all our vouchers even tho I booked in advance and told them because I brought them in one name but it clearly states you can purchase as gifts. I clearly brought them for all my friends but they wanted to con us for our money! The manager shahin was very rude and lazy even commented "your friends go restaurant don't they have money to spend" as after they not agreed to take all vouchers I took what we could and we left straight away. Was tiny not for 2-3people and looked like they rolled sushi with there feet as it was falling apart and badly presented. Apparently cos we didn't have table space they put 3 platters on a plate but it's was tiny and salty. Cocktails took forever to come. I ordered a mango daiquiri but came out no colour or ice just clear liquid with raspberry? Lol and was confirmed by staff it was right! We left hungry and badly treated so paid for 3 extra cocktails(should of been charged for 2 non alcoholic but the money hungry manager what do you expect) and no service as there was no service but a guy with bad attitude. Venue was tiny and there was no kitchen (it was the bar) apparently zuma n nobu former chefs is definitely a lie! Don't go to Kumo it's a shambles and a waste of time and money. We ended up 3 doors down at pizza express and enjoyed a lovely night with excellent service.

Champagne was plentyfull and not as expensive as it could have been given it's location. We mainly drank but the little we did eat was delicious. Will be visiting again. I stumbled across this quaint little club/bar/restaurant a few weeks ago...and took quite a liking to it so I hired the venue for my birthday. I am quite a difficult girl to please, but all I can say is that the owner and all staff were more than attentive and attended to my every need. Everything I requested was was taken care of down to the tiniest little detail. The night started off with dinner first which everyone enjoyed, we ordered practically everything off the menu, only criticism I would have is that some of the dishes come in small portions but definitely reasonably priced for what you get. I was really impressed with their selection of cocktails, wanted to try them all but the night just was not long enough, and the tunes the DJ was playing was music to my ears, so we danced the night away, well at least until 2am. Could not have asked for a better night to be honest. If you want great service, flavorful food, luscious cocktails with a beat and a floor to dance on than this is the venue for you with a price that is just right. If you get a little indecisive of what cocktail to try as the list is endless, I recommend the Persian kiss, not the best I have ever had but definitely worth a try.

A long-awaited review but I organised a charity event at Kumo a few weeks back and was very impressed by the venue and staff. The staff were very patient with us as we set up and helped whenever needed. Out of all the venues I had contacted, Kumo was by far the most accommodating, they allowed us to bring/use our own equipment and waived any fees knowing it was an event for a charity. Our guest’s fedback at how accommodating the staff had been and really enjoyed the complimentary platters that were donated by the manager. Overall a great experience and would definitely go back even to see a friendly face behind the bar.

I went to Kumo for my birthday - having been impressed by sister venue Rumi in Chelsea, I was delighted to hear about this new venue and wanted to see what it was all about. And I wasn't disappointed. The venue has the same friendly non pretentious atmosphere as Rumi however it is still stylish and the atsmopsher buzzing with a live dj who willingly takes requests and gets people dancing at the bar and round the tables very quickly, after some delicious cocktails with fantastic customer service. Something i'm extremely particular about working in the hospitality industry. The service is efficent, friendly and the atmosphere electric as the lounge beats die down and the dj kicks in. We sampled some of the sushi and my white chocolate cockail was to die for! I really recommend Kumo for a fun night out to guarantee a great atmosphere, excellent customer service and to get you and your party on the dance floor. Well done Kumo.

My first visit to Kumo last weekend after searching all the places to go out in Knightsbridge and I made the perfect choice. We booked to eat there as a group and were really looked after well, the staff were happy to assist and the service was great – they even prepared something which was not on the menu for one of my friends who had special dietary requirements – that was very helpful. After dining we stayed on and the cocktails were amazing. The vibe picked a little later in the night as it got busier and we ended up dancing till it closed. It was the best night out and a great venue, which I would highly recommend. I will be visiting again soon. 10 out of 10 to Kumo and thank you very much. X

Booked Kumo for a special birthday after reading all the brilliant reviews. We arrived early and were the only people there for quite some time. I was told they play chill out music early evening, well not that evening. There were 8 of us and 4 of us paid separately for our own food and drinks, which meant we had to pay the minute we ordered. As soon as we said we wanted to pay for our own things their attitude changed, they obviously thought we would not be spending much so did not deserve to be treated politely. I've often been to China Whites, Roof Gardens etc and I have never been to such a pretentious place as Kumos.12.5 % service charge is automatically added to every item, plus with the drinks an extra £1 just to bring them from the bar to the table. The cocktails were ok but nothing special. The food prices on the website are out of date, steak is now £18.50 (plus service charge of course), and it is literally steak in pepper sauce with not so much as a lettuce leaf. It was nice but could have been hotter. My friend asked to have the miso soup as a starter and one of the women (who was looking down her nose at us) told her 'we don't do starters', would it really have been such a problem to bring it first since we were the only people there. They did not have the desserts offered on the website but luckily a friend had make a cake, and the only reason I give Kumo one star is for not charging for bringing the cake out and supplying plates and forks! I had booked Kumo as I wanted somewhere we could dance, but by then we were all so fed up and felt so ripped off that we wanted to leave, the final straw was when one of my friends sat on part of the sofa and it collapsed as it was faulty. So we found the nearest pub. I was so disappointed as I had looked everywhere on the net for something with good reviews as I wanted a special night. A celeb friend was supposed to be joining us later but I texted and told him not to bother!
