I agree with the bad reviews. The good reviews and the replies to the bad reviews are obviously from the owner.
The food we were served was an absolute joke and the owner was rude. They obviously have no intention of having repeat customers they just want to rip people off.
Take my advice and avoid this restaurant at all costs.
Average, overpriced food - with one meal arriving 30 minutes after the rest - may have been forgiven because of polite waitresses and good company but the owner/manager was so rude that I left completely disgusted. I have never been so poorly treated in a restaurant before in my life. After arguing with our table and shouting at us, my friend politely asked him to stop being aggressive at which point he informed us that he was 'not being aggressive...yet.'
There was some dispute over the bill and we decided not to pay the service charge but I was not able to take all of this money back before he grabbed it from the table and told me I could not leave until he had counted the money. I started to walk out because I was getting extremely angry and he then said that I had not paid the full bill. I simply explained I was not paying the service charge as it was optional. He then asked me who said it was optional and I informed him the law did.
After finally leaving he followed us out onto the street shouting that we were cheap and did not pay our bill. When I tried to respond he shushed me and told me to leave despite the fact that it was him who had followed us outside.
Overall it was appalling and you could not pay me to return to this place.
This is the worst place I have ever been to. Rubbish service, complete rip off. No atmosphere whatsoever. Food was below standard. The discount they state on their website of 15% off when booking online or over the phone, apparently doesn't apply unless you order drinks and the set menu but this was never stated on their website. I have no idea how they got the stars from other reviewers, must have set it up....avoid
Went to this restaurant for a birthday party. Place was empty, no atmosphere at all. Food was dry and uninteresting.
Price was not as promised. Bill not itemised, cost double they had originally told us.
The only good thing was the belly dancer. Can't understand how the place is still open.
Any good reviews are probably forged by the owner. Don't go there. You can find far better at half the price.
We went to la menara for our christmas party and were rather taken with the dish raw chillies as past of the "mezze".
The music was very traditional moroccan but the stereo conked out a few times whilst the very attractive belly dancer weaved her way around the guests, so we did feel a little sorry for her dancing with no accompaniment. The Casablanca beer was nice and strong and flowing. The red chardonnay was a little odd.
However - every cloud has a silver lining; Porge (our company post room lady who sadly has a slight alcohol problem and is too dehydrated today to lick any stamps) has found a new love: Rashid the rampant restaurant manager. He apparantly has a crush on their MALE bellydancer though so she's a little disappointed about that...
Would defo go again - Saadia, your banter clearly wasn't as good as ours as we had the staff kissing our A's!
nice restaurant, delicious food, friendly staff and beautiful belly dancers , would u ask for more?
not related to the owners
Had dinner a this restaurant few weeks ago, was not impressed. I would not recommend it to anyone. I've been to other moroccan/lebanese restaurant in London whcih were more friendly and fun, the food was better and the service more efficient.
I went for dinner last night , what a disaster!!!
I coul be here all day giving a long list why.
I was the worst restaurant experience I ever had!
We felt so unwelcome, the manager was so unfriendly and agressive and to top it all we have been fleeced!
I really enjoyed myself at La Menara in every single way the food was spot on, the staff are terrific as well as the place itself and the prices are resonable so I'll definitely give La Menara another go.
La Menara has a great atmosphere and great food. My only complaint with La Menara would be that it closes so unfortunately I can't spend all my time there.
