La Porchetta do some really good Italian food with great choices. It can quite busy at the weekend but the atmosphere is always good and it’s always nice to spend a few hours here at the weekend with close friends and family. I would recommend the Cajun pizza and the pesto bread to share is pretty good too.
I have been a fan of this place for years. The restaurant has recently been redecorated which has simply made the dining experience more enjoyable. Very stylish and contemporary and the food is still just as great!
have been here quite a few times and actually held a family party at the upper street branch. They were great with their service ensuring there was always drinks on the table, food was flowing consistenly and even joined in singing happy birthday. On other occasions it is ideal for a quiet dinner with friends. I will continue to keep going back!
Great food, great service - all round great evening.
I went there last week to meet a friend who works close by. I absolutely love the ambience of La Porchetta. It is cosy and chilled out. Staff were friendly and readily available to help (don’t you just love that?) and I found it to be reasonably priced for the delicious food you get, it’s simply a bargain! I tried the folded pizza with mozzarella, salami and mushrooms. Yummy! Definitely one I recommend to try. Going again this week with a friend. Any excuse :-)
Having recently visited the newly decorated La Porchetta in Islington I can honestly say that it is one of the nicest and most reasonably priced Italians I have ever visited. The pizzas are gorgeous and very generous in size and the staff are always smiley and on hand to help. I will definitely be visiting the establishment again soon.
Probably one of the worst meals I have ever had.
The service started poorly and never got better. I could not understand the waitress when she came over to our table, which she clearly found irritating and promptly went over to her colleagues (right in front of the table) to tell them of this irritation and to mimick my misunderstanding, clearly causing me embarrassment! We never got an apology. Things just went downhill from here, with us having to harass the waiter for more drinks when we were gasping for more (whilst waiting ages for our food) and parmesan and cheese being chucked on our table for us to help ourselves to. The toilet was disgusting and smelt, not particularly nice when you are out for a meal. Watch out for the 'optional' 10% service charge added onto the bill at the end if you do dare to go.
I have worked in my fair share of restaurants and yes I have heard the expression 'the customer is always right' - 'NO THEY ARE NOT'. It doesn't matter how perfect the food and service are, you cannot please everyone. Even Gordon Ramsay can't please all the customers on his American show!! La Porchetta - if people like the food, they complain about the wallpaper. If people like the wallpaper (rare!) they complain about the food!! You just can't win. I am happy to say though, that anyone looking for good quality and good valued Italian food will not be disappointed at La Porchetta. It does exactly that - fresh, authentic Italian food for reasonable prices - As they say on ComparetheMarket.com - Simples!
I always have enjoyed this place, the pizzas are great just like my village in the south of Italy and are really big! Great staff are always up for a bit of banter creating a fun atmosphere. Service can be a bit slow sometimes, but this is when its busy on the weekend. Me and my girlfriend usually go once a week religiously
This review is the biggest piece of nonsense I have read in a while. To compare La Porchetta to Zizzi or Pizza Express is an abomination and akin to blasphemy. La Porchetta is one of those places you can appreciate as being truthful, unfussy, unpretentious. So if you're a fussy and pretentious Londoner I understand that this place is not for you. Yes, it can be loud at times and, yes, the Happy Birthdays are not always to my liking either, but this place is cheap and GOOD and if I want a romantic dinner for two than I´d make sure not to go here - although admittedly it was the restaurant my now husband and I went to on our first date, 9 years ago.The only reason I give it a mere four stars is that I prefer the Boswell Street branche off the Russell/Queen squares as this one is even more unpretentious.Thank goodness I am moving away from this city. HONESTLY... ZIZZI & PIZZA EXPRESS!!!!!!!!! Just when I thought that the recent food obsession in Britain had started to have some positive influence on taste!
La Porchetta is the best Italian restaurant in London, and I am sorry for the people that can not understand. The pasta is very good and the pizza is incredible. If you have never been to La Porhcetta, you must go.
I go to La Porchetta when my family goes, about 5-8 times a year, and I love it! For my birthday it is always my favourite choice (they sing Happy Birthday while clanging dustbin lids together, how embarrasing, but I do love the attention). However I always find their food the best tasting, for very good value and their profiteroles, oh my gosh they taste fabulous! I have always had a excellent time at La Porchetta, that's why it deserves its 5*'s.
