Langtrys, located at the Cadogan Hotel in Chelsea, offers a real taste of old England with a modern flourish.

The Venue
The Cadogan Hotel on Sloane Street probably doesn’t look much different to when Oscar Wilde was around and when Lillie Langtry, famous actress and mistress of Edward VII, lived there. A recent refurbishment has given the place a new look but without spoiling its essentially robust and traditional appearance.

The Atmosphere
This is serious dining for real food lovers. Although the room is elegant and quiet, there is still a touch of informality about it. Visitors are obviously here for the smart ambience and for the imaginative menu.

Here you will find a good value set lunch at just over £20 for three courses. There’s an a la carte menu for dinner and on Monday to Saturday the Limitless Laroche Dinner for £35 including unlimited wine. Saturday and Sunday lunch offers three courses with unlimited Perrier Jouet champagne for under £30, with Sunday specialising in roast joints of beef and lamb. The Food
Langtrys offers an unexpectedly original menu. Starters such as home-made pork pie and pickles, Welsh cockle soup, beef tea, and a prawn cocktail of Morecambe Bay shrimps with avocado mousse and Marie Rose ice cream are both interesting and traditional. Main course a la carte dishes include Toad in the Hole with crackling, Fisherman’s pie, roasted sea bass, spatchcock chicken and Lancashire hot pot. The plaice wrapped in ham hocks is as tasty as it is filling. For dessert the traditional British Sticky toffee and date pudding is a winner that sticks to your ribs – one of the great British comfort foods.

The Drink
The wine list is quite comprehensive with bottles running the gamut from around £20.00 to over £100.00. It’s the sort of list that offers both reasonably priced bottles to some very fine wines, so there’s something for every taste and pocket. The unlimited wine and champagne offers are particularly attractive.

The Last Word
Langtrys is ideal not only for that special occasion but also for a splendid lunch or a set dinner which won’t cost you too much. Take advantage of the wine offers and the special menus and you can’t go wrong.
