A friend of mine recommended L'Arco Restaurant to my girlfriend and me for pre-theatre dining and i've got to say i wasn't disappointed! Having walked past Pizza Express and Ask which are around the corner i was expecting L'Arco to be just as plasticy and samey as all the rest. I was wrong! The restaurant had a great authenticity to it and a warming atmosphere. We were welcomed in by the owner himself and he sat us on the table where apparently 'the celebs sit'.
My girlfriend had the aparagus which came with parma ham in black butter and cheese, which was excellent! Likewise the sardines which were filleted and most enjoyable. I can also recommend the Tagliatelle Tuna Alfredo which had a very tasty home made sauce. We both went for the zabaglione dessert which our friend recommended to us and we quite understand why! We opted for house wine which was also of a high standard.
After our meal we still had time before the theatre to have a chat with Luigi the owner who told me it's a family run restaurant which is quite unusual these days and it's the longest running restaurant in the area.
Considering the price and location I would recommend L'Arco to anyone wanting decent, reasonably priced food in a friendly ambience!
I have to say this is possibly the worst foof I have had the miss fortune to be presented with. I had the Veal, which arrived in a watery tomato sauce, which hadn't even been reduced down properly, might as well have been juice from a can od tomatoes, some over cooked button mushrooms, My partner opted for spaghetti carbonara, which arrived over cooked, very dry and had obviously come direct from a microwave..What a disappointment, the service was unfriendly and abrupt. Both plates lacked seasoning too. we wont be going back.
I visited larco restaurant on saturday night with my partner and two children, it was a terrible experience from start to finish, we waited an hour between our starter and main course, when it eventually arrived it was so disappointing, the house wine was the worst wine i have ever tasted, undrinkable. i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would advise to stay away.
My sister and I were visiting England from the states and our concierge at the Rubens recommended the L'Arco.
Luigi seated us and we had a very good meal at a very reasonable price. There were plenty of choices and we enjoyed our veal marsala. The dessert was tasty as well.
Would definitly go there again, you ought to give it a try. It is small, but accommodated everyone well.
Thanks Dave and Luigi!!!
I recently had a "girlie" weekend in London with my sisters. After a lovely day sight-seeing, we decided on Italian for dinner and found L'Arco.
I would like to say what an absolute pleasure it was to eat there. The restaurant is entirely family run and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The recommended starter of asparagus was delicious as were our main meals, all washed down with Italian wine - lovely!!
The atmosphere was relaxed and informal and nothing was too much trouble for our waiter. It was almost like being part of the family.
I would have no hesitation in recommending L'Arco to all my friends. If you are looking for somewhere in London to rest and recuperate over lunch or for an evening meal "treat" then L'Arco is definitely for you.
Found l'Arco through a search of restaurant websites, and thought it looked a suitable place for a casual weekday dinner.
There is a very good reason why they don't display their winelist outside: it's unbelievably extortionate! £25 for a bottle of Asti(!) anyone?? Asked for a bottle of house white instead (no description given on menu), which came in a label-less bottle. Needless to say, it was completely undrinkable.
As for the service ... our waiter brought over the specials list after we'd ordered from the main menu. This could have been overlooked, if he hadn't also been extremely rude - since when has it been the waiter's role to tell a customer that they're in a bad mood?! (Which, incidentally, I wasn't until I encountered this man.) Having complained about the house wine, the waiter then launched into a diatribe about it being one of the "best Italian wines". Hmmm.
Quite frankly, I'm not willing to be spoken to like that, or fleeced by a wine list, so we left without eating. Tip to the management? Know your competition: there are plenty of places nearby where you can get far better service, in a far nicer environment and with a sensible, good quality winelist.
Having just got into Victoria Station (late!) after a trip, my wife and I popped into L'Arco Restaurant for a bite to eat.
The first thing that struck us was the friendly atmosphere and the welcoming staff who made us feel completely at ease. The decor is fantastic, very homely, and there was a definite buzz about the place with other visitors happily chatting away and enjoying their meals.
The food at L'Arco Restaurant was excellent and as we were chatting to our waiter, we discovered it is totally family run which is just the sort of place my wife loves (she hates chain restaurants!) and we got to learn about where the family comes from which was fascinating!
We're not in London that often, but next time we are, we're definitely stopping in here again - great food, a superb wine list and fantastic staff. Highly recommended!
Ate at L'Arco Restaurant last night with a friend of mine. It was pleasant enough and the service was friendly and helpful from start to finish. The décor was far from nice with tons of rubbish up on the walls, but we weren't exactly expecting the Ivy when we walked in.
The food at L'Arco Restaurant was fairly basic for Italian and although not outstanding, or even good by any means, it was edible. The portions were a bit smaller than one would expect for an average of £8-9 a main. We had a bottle of the house wine which was fine, but in retrospect it must have been very over priced. The total came to £35 for two mains and a bottle of the house wine, which by no means is expensive but is sure not a good deal. I think the best option is to find another Italian with better food, better portions and not over priced... Failing that even the ASK around the corner, which pains me as I hate chain restaurants!
I was recommended this restaurant at the Victoria Palace theatre as an ideal post-show dinner spot. We were offered any table we wished that was free, and the staff was very, very helpful in assuring we were out in time to catch our last tube. The meal was delicious, cooked by the owner, and we were waited on by the owner's son who was very polite, kind and helpful. It had a wonderfully authentic and cosy atmosphere and made you feel more than welcome. We came back the following evening only to eat the same dish as we were sure we wouldn't find the opportunity to beat it at that price anywhere else. A real find and highly recommended.
L'Arco restaurant has the most delicious pizza and desserts I have ever tried. I have been advised to branch out and try other dishes of theirs but it tastes so good I just can't.
This is one of the best Italian eats in London. The cosy atmosphere is suited for romantic dinners. We went there for a birthday and the people at L'arco decided to turn off the lights and bring us a delicious chocolate cake. In fact, the friendly staff is probably the biggest asset of the restaurant. The food is also very good, although it is not a cheap pizza kind of place. Fully recommended.
