I have anticipated going to this restaurant for months.
I had the smoked fish platter and my partner had Duck Fois Gras. The Foie Gras was delicious, perfectly light and not too metallic, the smoked platter was fine, but it lacked inspiration.
For our main I had the venison, which was a hearty casserole - very delicate and very tasty. The vegetables were disappointing, creamy potatoes and small Mediterannean accompaniments. My partner had Halibut, which was overcooked and plain.
The dessert chosen was a Cheese platter - which was similarly uninspired. The chocolate dessert I favoured was however out of this world - this alone is definitely worth returning for.
The decor was simple, if a little drab. The hostess was charming and amiable, but there was a lack of attention to detail.
The overall evening was lovely, the restaurant has a charming little atmosphere and the food is certainly way above that of surrounding restaurants. The wine list is reasonable and well stocked - but failed miserably to compliment the set Christmas menus.
I would return when the food was a la carte - and the gaudy Christmas baubles are gone.
Overall a slightly disappointing but entertaining evening.
