I had the pleasure of eating at Le Garrick Brasserie with few friends. It was recommended by a london friend for its warm welcome and genuine french cuisine. A bit of South west of France at the heart of convent garden. Hard to pick something on the menu given the choice and at a very reasonable price given the products. I went for the "Cassolette de calamar a la plancha au piment d’espelette" and the "Coquelet au Citron". My friends went for different options and we ended up stealing in each others plates to have a bit of taste of everything. A cosy and distinctive ambience of a true french brasserie. More than highly recommended after a wet and cold London night.

I've loved Le Garrick for years and with the change in ownership the level of service and quality of food has only gone up.

We often go for lunch and the set menu is amazing... a decent sized steak and fries or moules frites for less than £10, which in the middle of Covent Garden just can't be beaten.

Eating at Le Garrick is a great experience, especially if you sit downstairs.

I thoroughly recommend this place, nice cosy atmosphere, great to come on a date or even bring a group of friends. Will definitely be returning when I'm back in London, Great food, great wine but more importantly and what is often lacking in restaurants in central London...Character!

What a shame. A night ruined by bad service and passable food. Kept waiting for a pre-booked table only to find the table had been ready all along. Then forgotten by waiters and kept waiting for 20 minutes before we had our order taken. The starters were very nice but the mains were bad. Don't bother trying to complain in this place. The manager has no customer service skill what so ever. Took great offence at the mere idea of us complaining. Then to top it off he stood over us as we worked out the bill between us. Such a shame that this once lovely little favourite of mine has gone to the dogs. Awful awful awful.

This place used to be good, but you get put off by unfriendly reception. No drinks offered. no board inside showing the specials and the menu looked tired and worthy of a greasy spoon cafe.
Having been seated, the staff then vanished downstairs. I waited for a few minutes and then walked out. I found a much happier place in St Martins Lane. I have had some nice meals here in the past, but am afraid Le Garrick has lost my business.

I'd been to Le Garrick several years ago and had high hopes of our return visit. Sadly, I was very disappointed. The cosy ambience is completely ruined by poor, thoughtless, bordering-on-rude service, distinctly average food, poor value for money and an uninspiring menu. For example, one and a half scallops and a hint of salad cost £7.95. And the steak was worse than Chez Gerard. Not what I was hoping for!

Service was really very poor - staff are defensive and unhelpful. We sent one dish back (politely!) because it was not as described on the menu and received a shrug and a "what do you expect?" Well, I expected much more and won't be returning. If you're in Covent Garden, go and eat in the basement at Cafe des Amis or head to Bedford and Strand. Both have similar prices, much better quality and excellent ambience/service. And the cheese at Cafe des Amis is awesome, unlike that at Le Garrick.

I completely wholeheartedly agree with this review. I was similarly disappointed when I dined there recently. We also had the overpriced scallop starter. When we very politely complained about the scallops (they were thin, overcooked, and dripping in burnt butter) the waiting staff spoke to the kitchen then informed us that most people like scallops 'well done' and we had not been asked for them to be cooked any other way. Scallops?! Well done?!

The service went downhill from there and plate after plate of unapologetically bad food was served to us. I was with my in-laws and after the rude response to our scallop situation did not feel we could complain again. Our steaks were ordered rare and were completely overcooked, the chips were re-fried and greasy, and the same cut of beef was served for two different steak dishes (despite an 8 pound difference in price tag)!

I used to be such a fan of The Garrick. I have fond memories of lots of lovely evenings there but there is something seriously wrong in the kitchen now.

Oh and the wine was off

Le Garrick is wonderful. The menu may be short but well done. And the mussels and chips were as good as anything we have had in Brussels and Bruges!

Le Garrick has a great bistro atmosphere and food. It has a small menu but it is well done, plus friendly staff, even on busy Saturday evening. Le Garrick is excellent value for money. The calamari and anis starter was superb, and the mussels fresh, plump and flavoursome. The Garrick Coq au Vin is all it should be. This place is highly recommended.

If you fancy a French-inspired relaxing bistro lunch in the heart of town then you can do an awful lot worse than try the Garrick - good food, good drinks and an excellent atmosphere!

The Garrick Wine Bar is a great venue, looks tiny from the street but go down the spiral staircase on the left through the doorway and you'll find a small bar with cosy French atmosphere, good food and excellent wine list. Great hideaway place.
