The food was great, the decor was great. Would get 4 stars, except for two things: It was let down by poor service (waiters struggling with English, bringing food late, forgetting dishes, etc); and then the evening was disturbed by the ridiculously loud music during the belly dancer for 15 minutes at 8pm. It was so loud that it was impossible to talk for 15 mins, and when the music stopped, our ears were ringing. If I had wanted a nightclub, I would have gone to one. We asked the waiters to turn it down, but it just seemed to get louder. What a let-down.
Note - I'm not an old fuddy-duddy, I'm still young (not just at heart), and I don't dislike loud music in principle (I go to clubs sometimes), just not over dinner.
Highly recommended! The decor is really beautiful, even as you descend to the toilets downstairs. Its is very popular though so advance booking at the weekend is essential if you want a good table.
I would recommend the cosey booths for an intimate meal or four friends, beautiful cushions and tables.
The food is also delicious and the cater for vegetarians very well, be wary though the platters are very filling and you want to save space for the mint tea and baclava, ohh and theres a very attractive belly dancer at 8pm at the weekends who even got my father in law up for a dance (but not in a cheasy/pushy kinda way)...
Also great for lunch as well :)
Upon entering Levantine I was disappointed because the decor was not nearly as nice as I had expected and the seating was in an extremely small and cramped area. We were initially placed right next (literally) to the bar but were moved after objecting. The food was relatively tasty but they had messed up an order and given a meat dish to my vegetarian boyfriend after he ordered the vegetarian option! However, the manager did not charge him for the meal, which is a sign of good service. Overall, I was not exactly impressed with Levantine.
Upon visiting Levantine for the first time I was a little apprehensive about the seating arrangements as it is quite a cramped space. However, as my meal progressed, I grew more comfortable in my surroundings and found that the seating arrangements were far more cosy than cramped. The food was without fault and I was pleasantly surprised to find that vegetarians are very well catered for here. Pricing is modest considering the selection and the staff are all very welcoming and efficient. I highly recommend Levantine to large and small groups. I have been back several times since and plan to check out Levatine's sister restaurant Levant in Marylebone.
