The ViewLondon Review
The trendy chain bar Lime brings its crisp, clean-cut style and contemporary fusion cuisine to Epsom. Perfect for a night out as there’s a restaurant, bar and club all under one roof. The VenueThis is one of a wave of new bars and restaurants that are offering customers a more sophisticated wining and dining experience than the traditional British pub. It's sleek, subtle and contemporary. Outside there is a modern glass frontage, framed by the trademark citrus-green facade. The striking appearance of the bar makes a bold impression on the bland high street of Epsom.
Inside, white floors and white stone-topped tables complement the open-plan style. The bar also includes a mix of sofas and stools, and a state-of-the-art sound system, which is put to good use at weekends.
For those who like it al fresco, a garden courtyard behind the bar offers plenty of bamboo greenery, large parasols and built-in heaters for those bitter winter months!
The AtmosphereLime consists of two main rooms, separated by the central bar. One side offers diners a relaxed, laid-back environment to enjoy their food and the other provides the comparatively younger patrons with louder music, sofas and a small area for dancing. At weekends, the DJ plays mainstream music, which gets progressively louder as the food service winds down and the dancing hots up!
The FoodThe menu reflects a diversity of flavours and ingredients from around the world. Evening highlights include dishes like roasted garlic shrimps marinated in coconut milk, lime, garlic and ginger served on a bed of lemongrass with a plantain salsa; or a fillet of beef rubbed with a tropical mix of herbs and spices and served with sweet potato mash.
The restaurant serves a separate lunch menu offering a selection of lighter dishes such as a speciality lamb burger, served with fries; spicy shrimp cakes served with fries and ginger dips; as well as sandwiches and salads.
The DrinkLime certainly offers a stylish night out but is it a matter of style over substance? Although the bar is sleek and attractive, there is nothing really innovative on offer in terms of alcohol. It has a limited number of lagers and a selection of slightly overpriced spirits. Bar staff are friendly and good-natured but are not incredibly adept at making cocktails. A small selection of shooters are also available for those in search of a very drunken (and possibly very short) evening’s entertainment.
Last wordLime provides a refreshing experience for regular drinkers and diners in Epsom and an all in one service to eat, drink and dance the night away!
