The sort of coffee house you dream of finding, and then you do! A proprietor that's fantastically knowledgeable about coffee and willing to share his knowledge, old and new ways of enjoying the coffee (try the filter, it's worth it!) and a tempting array of cakes and sandwiches, plus sofas to lounge on and free wi-fi - you need never leave!

The beat up leather sofas tempted us in but there was nothing beat up about the espresso. Superb! Will be back to try their specials and check out the food offering. Highly recommended.

this is great place but .....the wifi seems to have a configuration problem for Apple products. I can access wifi with a regular laptop but not with my MacBook or iPad. Its very frustrating. Apparently I'm not the only Apple user with problems connecting at LJ. please can you look into this. thanks

Stopped in because I saw the filter coffee menu. Got this fantastic brewing contraption brought over to the table. Great tasting coffee too - I had their special - a single origin from Brazil. Very knowledgeable barista who was more than happy to Chat - such a nice change. Great coffee, great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Hello Ssumners, thank you for the great feedback, we are glad you like the Clever Coffee Drippers. We actually sell them (along with all of our fantastic coffee - wholebean or ground) in the shop. If you can't make it to the shop, we also sell all of our coffee related goodies via our new website - www. Ljcoffeehouse. Com. You can brew all of our 'coffee as it should be' at home! We hope to see you soon, introduce yourself! Kind regardslj Coffeehouse

I came upon this coffee house on my last day in London a few weeks ago. It was fantastic! The owner was kind and friendly and he made me the best Chai Latte I have ever had.

I felt like I was at home - in my local coffee shop in NYC. So, if you are looking for a great date spot - a place to unwind with some friends - or even a place to be quiet on your own - this is the place!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Knowing Soho pretty well, and always looking for loving proper coffee. I was recommended lj just off Wardour street at the Shaftesbury Ave end. It didn't fail me. Heading to a Saturday in the office, popped in to grab a coffee to keep me whilst my pc booted up. The coffee is simply delicious, full bodied, rounded, perfectly fresh.

Lj's coffee choice sits alongside great care, down to the proper shaved chocolate on top and to the fresh perfect Danish. A real find. A thorough recommendation for me. Http://www. Viewlondon. Co. Uk/images/global_btn_send. Gif

Came here because of the great review from View so thought it only fair I add my own!!

Had a double espresso first - am a coffee geek so this is my litmus test! They were off to a great start when it arrived with a glass of water - I'm amazed how few coffee places do this.

The espresso has a beautiful crema and was to die for.

The owner told me the beans are from Union Hand Roasted - a roastery in London and he was very passionate about them!

I moved on to a cappuccino and was equally impressed. Thick, dense micro bubble foam with some fantastic real chocolate pieces on top.

The atmosphere is great - it's like someone's living room - all the more so because there were three people playing scrabble in the corner.

The barista was knowledgeable, smiley, fun and enthusiastic - a rare find in Soho - I will definitely be back - Thank you ViewLondon for helping me find this place.

Simply the BEST coffee in Soho.A***Jamie

I found this coffee shop (sorry house!) in my first month of living in London, and I have never looked back.

Now instead of going to one of the 'branded coffee shops' I will always come here. Today I walked past 6 other coffee places to come here for a great takeaway coffee.

And you will find me spending a great deal of time here because it is, quite frankly, the best coffee shop (sorry house!) in London.

Every aspect is excellent. I cannot recommend this enough (have you noticed?) Keep up the good work!

Oh Thank Heavens! A decent coffee house in Soho, with a Barista who knows his coffee and serves a great cup.

I only realised where it was because he'd put a board out on Wardour St.

Union Coffee is so much better than the cack that the chains serve up and now you don't have to put up with the attitude either from the staff!!

Should I recommend it to my colleagues or keep it my secret? I think I know what LJ's would say.

Keep up the great work and I'll be back soon!

Judging by all the replies, David's definitely watching this - but that's a big chunk of the charm of this genuine independent coffee house.

David cares more than anyone else I've ever met about his cafe and has the enthusiasm and drive to back it up and put that love to good use.

Not only is the coffee (and the porridge, and the pastries, etc. etc.) first rate, but so is the experience!

I came at first because on his opening week he was literally giving away coffee - no purchase necessary (although hard to resist!) and he made a customer for life in one sip.

Always warm, friendly, with current reading material and a Scrabble board on hand and always something new to try I always come in for a coffee and come out with a smile.

I know it sounds disgustingly sycophantic, but it's all genuine - so much so I think I'll put this up anonymously just so he knows I'm not trying to blag any freebies (although if you work it out....!)

Keep up the splendid work sir, it's people like you that show the world that independents are the true coffee heroes!

Having seen some good reviews for here we visited it around lunch-time this week whilst in London for a few days.

The £5 lunch offer (coffee, sandwich and cake) is very good value, especially as the cakes are hand-made, and the sandwiches are of a good standard.

Had a nice chat with the owner who told us he has visited both the coffee distributor, and the cake-makers. His aim of running a good, independent establishment certainly seems off to a good start.

Inside there is a nice comfortable feel, with sofa's, board games and books. He also serves porridge for breakfast.

I would certainly recommend a visit, especially if like me you find there are just too many of the large chain coffee shops dominating the scene, and you'd like to support an independent.

Hello! Thanks for the great review - it was lovely to talk to you as well!

If you're back in London again please do pop in and say hi. It really is great for us to get feedback and to know that the reviews we have received so far are helping to encourage customers away from the 'Big Three'.

It's certainly never been more important to support all our small, independent shops and I, for one, very much appreciate it.

Many Thanks
David

My friend and i found this coffee house after a long day at work. After ordering, we sank into soft leather sofas while the friendly staff bought our drinks over. I thoroughly enjoyed the homely atmosphere and the fresh leaf tea that was presented to us in a stylish glass tea pot!!! They even have board games!!! I would thoroughly recomend this place to anyone like me who wishes to spend time chatting to friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hi There!

We are very glad you enjoyed it - I love the board games too! We wanted somewhere that was a little different from the big chains - not only serving possibly the best coffee in soho but also somewhere for people to chill out.

Try playing scrabble with only words associated with coffee!!

Went here on a wednesday night to catch up with a friend instead of trawling the bars of Soho. Instead of the normal scowling service you get in the heart of town, was immediately greeted with nice smiles and friendly staff. Had a great coffee and the place looks great - felt really cosy as opposed to what it was before. Let's hope it can grow as a company and provide great coffee and service in more locations!

After a shopping trip a friend and I spotted this very cosy looking Coffee House in Winnett St. And cosy it was from the warmth of the greeting as we entered to the cosiest leather chairs and sofas and coffee and super huge cakes to die for.
This is one place for temptation to follow you through the door as it would be a shame to miss out on any of the delicious looking cakes on offer. We had already had lunch but we did notice that there was good selection of sandwiches and salads available.
If you are passing or are in the area then I can highly recommend this Coffee House for a well deserved coffee/tea or light lunch.

At Last!! A real coffee bar in Soho producing decent coffee instead of the rubbish I normally get in Starbucks!

I was walking past on Tuesday too early for a meeting so went in and I'm so glad I did. It turns out that it was their first day but the staff were friendly and knowledgable about their products. I had a Grande Cappuccino which was beatifully served and had real chocolate flakes on the top - no cheap Cadburys powder!!

Not only that but the coffee was to die for - it had flavour!!

I'd highly recommend this place if you are passing - much more cosy than the rest of the tat out there.

Good job - I'll be back.

Hi Anthony - we are glad you enjoyed it!

It took us a long time to source the coffee from a bunch of guys who hand roast it in London. They are as passionate about great coffee as we are and visit all the farms they get their beans from and are really active in helping the farmers improve - including lugging a great big espresso machine around the countryside to show the farmers what their products is made into!!

If you didn't try the cakes - you really must next time! They come from the Handmade Cake Company - and they really are all Handmade!!

Thanks for the great review - say hi next time you are in.
