Awful place! Slow service, pretentious staff. I witnessed the band who had played there all night have their instruments chucked out by the bouncers. I'll never be going back there -outrageous thuggery
Wouldn't go again, far too crowded but the music is good so it you don't mind not being able to move then give it a go!
Hugely disappointed. My birthday is coming up at the end of the month so I emailed the bar over two weeks in advance to find out availability. No response.
I then had to chase the bar and send a follow up, only to finally get a reply and be told it's now fully reserved (the irony of it all - perhaps if they answered on time...)
Customer Service is important and to have to chase a bar to book a table and bring along 30 guests all spending money is ridiculous.
Will not be visiting in the future, rather spend my money elsewhere.
After being massively disappointed with The Loft customer service, I decided to change the venue to celebrate my 30th birthday and it was hands down the best decision!
From start to finish, I have dealt with a very professional team.
I felt very welcomed by the friendly bar and door staff, all my guests gave great feedbacks!
I had an area upstairs and luckily for us, that night wasn't too busy so we pretty much had upstairs to ourselves!
The cocktails are fantastic and DJ played some decent music throwing some good old classics.
I can simply not recommend this place enough!
Thank you Lost Society!
I organised and of course attended my best friends 30th birthday party, at this fantastic lively restaurant, bar/club. We were told to ensure that all of our guest arrived early, preferably before 9pm (as it was a Saturday) to ensure that they wouldn't have to cue and I totally recommend this, as this amazingly lively place is popular! Some of us arrived for dinner at 7pm and were looked after from the moment we walked through the door. The staff were charming and friendly and the cocktails were delicious. The food was cooked to perfection and the deserts were to die for! After dinner we were moved to a fantastic area reserved for us (I had to book in advance) by the DJ booth, where we received fantastic waitress service with more amazing cocktails and some delicious snacks for the after dinner arrivals. The top floor soon turned into a lively dance floor with a great atmosphere, when the DJ kicked off at 10pm. We had an absolutely amazing night of dancing and girlie fun and the garden area, complete with bar, was a great place to cool off and meet people! Altogether it was an incredible night and has now become one of our favourite places to hang out in London!!
I recently arranged my friend's hen party here.
During the planning stage, the staff at Lost Society were extremely patient, and willing to go out of their way to accommodate our needs. On the night itself we were looked after very attentively, and the staff were kind and friendly.
I liked the decor, which was quirky and had a sense of humour about it - and definitely on the right side of tasteful! Also, the general vibe was great!
We all really enjoyed the food - the starters, the mains, and the desserts! (And even the cheese board got an excellent review from one of my friends!)
After the meal we went for a dance at the bar. We had to leave to catch the last train home, but I was having such a good time I wanted to stay longer. I intend to return!!
I have lived on Clapham High Street for some time now and have only just ventured down to Lost Society recently. I originally went for cocktails. I was served by a bartender wearing a tartan waist coat and interesting facial hair. After an engaging chat about the medicinal uses of alcohol he introduced me to a Chipotle Sour using homemade ingredients. Wow what an blood marvellous concoction. It seems the Bartenders really enjoy what they are doing and are well read. The bar got really busy from about 9pm but my friend in the Tartan continue to engage all the customers with great banter as he worked feverishly. I proceeded to wonder around the various rooms that is Lost Society. A waitress walked briskly passed and up into a restaurant above the bar. The smell was too enticing so I asked if i may get some dinner as a friend was joining me. The Chipotle Sour had awaken my hunger. She seemed to think they were fully booked but after speaking to the manager was able to squeeze me in a bit later - well I waited and it was worth it. I had the Teriyaki beef medallions and my friend had a most interesting Nettle soup, no stinging lips but very green and fresh. Followed by Pork Chop with Swiss chard and Tuna Panzanella salad. The service was spot on even though it was busy. The girl working the restaurant was up and down the stairs. What a result will defo be coming back. Well done and what a surprise.
I dined at Lost Society last Saturday for my friends birthday, there were 14 of us and we had the best time, we took advantage of the online pre-order system they offer, which meant that the night went smoothly and everyone got what they wanted. The staff were excellent and really attentive to our table, we couldn't fault it. We then went into the bar to dance the night away! The DJ was great, the bar staff were all very lovely to us, id definitely recommended and return!
I am writing this after a particularly bad experience at Lost Society. I have always liked it and was looking forward to going for a friends Birthday meal. When we arrived we were seated promptly but left for such a long time before our drinks orders were taken. Finally, we were given the food menu. When the starters arrived they forgot mine so I didn't eat until everyone had finished. This didn't bother me. Our main courses were not nice at all!! Two of our meals were so over-powered by garlic it masked the taste of the rest of the dish. They agreed to take these off the bill but were clearly offended. Then the waitress said we had to leave the table as they were expecting another party who had booked it. This was fine but it was ten past nine and the party were not due until half past, we said we were just going to finish our wine and then we would vacate the table. The 'general manager' swooped over to our table 'I have four problems here, you are a problem table'! The following conversation that ensued was quite frankly shocking. This manager should not be working in the service industry and certainly not with the public. He was offensive, rude and belligerent. I am very sad to write this review and disappointed that people like this are entrusted to run an establishment that I once really liked going to. We were welcomed next door at Artesian Wells were we were told this particular member of staff has a reputation for this. Well trained staff should have a knack for dealing with what he viewed 'problem' diners and manage to turn a situation round not make it worse.
I went to Lost Society for the first time last night, having lived 5 minutes for the last year and not made it until this point. I was very pleasantly surprised, the decor is amazing, such a nice layout and different from anywhere else i have been in Clapham. I arrived late and yes it was busy, especially on the dance floor, but what other decent place in Clapham wouldn't be the same! The bar staff that i had the pleasure of talking to were very polite and i managed to get to the upstairs bar straight away (maybe because it was late?). I can't wait to go back again!
I do not have a bad word to say about this place, came to a friends birthday here last Saturday. What an amazing venue, great crowd, friendly staff, best cocktail list Ive seen in a long time! The music was excellent, we spent the night on the dance floor, cant wait to come back here again!
I have been coming to this venue since it opened, it is by far the best place to go south of the river, there is no contest, the food is great, the cocktails are fabulous, who cares if you have to wait a little while they are made, its well worth it! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, yes they get busy on a Saturday night, but the vibe is amazing, always such a great up for it crowd! I love this place.
I have been going to Lost Society for a number of years now, and have read many reviews, this is the first one I have written as I feel its time to say my piece. Lost Society has always been a very busy bar, with queues from as early as 8pm. What you have to remember is people, its not very big, its an old building that has had rooms added on to it over the last 400 years. That is it's charm! It is a small bar with a very good vibe. They make fantastic cocktails, they are not cheap but they are by no means expensive. You pay for what you get, you want 2 for 1 cocktails with no music on a Saturday night, go to Weatherspoons. I've eaten here a few times, the restaurant is very small holding around 20 people, but is a great way to start the night, the food is good and the set menu is a great price. Of course the dancefloor gets busy, that's where everyone wants to be once the booze has kicked in, but not everyone can be on there at the same time, its a 400 year old building, not a super club in a warehouse! Maybe a victim of their own success, everyone wants to be inside, so they arrive early, a queue forms, the place fills up, people get annoyed that they are having to wait outside, everyone inside moves onto the dancefloor ('it's too busy'), people outside see the bar is not that busy as everyone is upstairs dancing ('boo, says those outside, capacity reached says the security), what a dilemma! As I said, I have been coming here for a number of years, its a great place, try it, and enjoy it.
Could be a great place but they somehow seem just to get it all so very wrong. I can understand the need for regulating the queue but they often take the piss leaving the queue to grow while inside is empty. On other nights they somehow seem to manage to go to the other extreme and jam pack the place to a point it becomes a hazard and a 15 minute wait at the bar becomes the norm.
Staff are generally good but have seen customers given abuse or a hard time for perfectly reasonable responses - what's that about? Look at the amount of reviews that bring this up, I'm thinking they need to sort it out at some point, though of course they won't.
It's not terrible but could just be sooooo much better if they had a little better customer service and tried not to pack the place out. Fools...
Decent place, but far too overcrowded to the point where it ruins the night and the drinks are very expensive!
Really would not recommend this place. The bar staff are the most arrogant, and rude I've ever come across, and I've been to a number of establishments all over London. If you do decide to pay it a visit, do so at your own risk; and importantly try to avoid the girl with a tattoo across her shoulder and arm like the plague - she in my experience was the worst of the bar staff.
Nice venue, but seriously over crowded on the weekends. I've been there a couple of times now and I think the fastest I've ever been served at the bar was probably about 15 minutes! Sound system needs updating too. It's obviously not the best quality and when they crank it up, it leaves your ears ringing!
I went to the Lost Society for a friends birthday on Saturday night. Had the most amazing time I've had for a long time- even in some of the more members clubs within London. The concept of having a restaurant area, another area and the garden to sip cocktails and then another floor to dance to amazing music makes it quite rare and special. I had steak and it is by far the best steak that I have ever had. The service was faultless and incredibly friendly which made the experience even better.
I went with a couple of friends, and we were greeted with a warm friendly welcome from one of the hosts who found us a table, gave us brief history of the Lost Society and even offered to take us on a mini tour. It's a great place - really nice decor both inside and in the garden.
Drinks are cheaper than what you'd find in central London. The only criticism is that the service can be a bit slow as we waited AGES for the bottle of Chilean Chardonnay (which tasted great by the way). Waitress apologised profusely for the delay, and the second time around, the wine came a bit quicker.
Also the door to the ladies rest rooms was jammed open, so anyone passing by could look in and see the women powdering their noses- a lot of guys kept coming in 'by mistake'
Apart from that there's a good buzz - nice crowd. And the music on Friday night was very good.
In fact , I liked it so much that I'm going back there tonight
Do not enter unless you're willing to wait for a 5 min cocktail to be made in 15 mins instead. One bar lady eventully found the right mixers whilst stopping to chat to her fellow bar colleagues about every 2 mins. Her concentration span was minimul and after 10 mins i saw her boss give her the look. She carried on talking, i told her that we'd been waiting for a long time.. She slammed the drink down then turned round to her colleagues, pointed us all out and said we were satisfied and got all haughty. not a way to welcome customers. What ever happened to an apology or customer service. Lost Society, you need to sort it out....
I lived in Clapham for just under a year and would tempt my friends to come South of the River with this gem. Lost Society is one of the best places in London. First, most of the bartenders are from Brazil so they know how to pour a mean caprihina or capriosca. Ask for them "Brazilian style" if you want to stumble out late. Second, they have some of the best DJs and the low hanging heavy beams and poles make for fun dancing accessories. Third, it's hardly a pretentious place as everyone is there to have a great time and I've always met interesting, fun people there.
Friends birthday party. Name was on VIP list - told to make sure we arrive before 9 otherwise they charge door entry. At 8.50 we told the bouncer we were on the VIP list, he told us we still needed to queue up - So whats the point of a VIP list then?
Had to wait till 10.15 before we actually got in to see our friends. When we got inside it was pretty empty, and asked the coat check in lady why the wait, she said they often did this to make the place look more appealing (and no doubt to collect more money from the entry fee after 9.)
This was a couple of months ago, but they have lost all the future business of about 20 of us.
The most arrogant bar staff I have ever dealt with. If you say the right thing and ask for the right drink they will not turn you away. The worst night I have had in this area. Genuinely I would give it a worse rating if I could.x
My friends and I were very impressed with the quality of food, drinks and service at Lost Society. The waiter was extremely polite and attentive. Cocktails were delicious and well priced. (Happy hour!) We all had the steak Tuesday deal and were all pleased with our selection. Steaks cooked to perfection with yummy salad and chunky fries on the side. I would highly recommend this place!
Disgusting.
As a loyal customer of this bar for many years, I was shocked and appalled by the service offered on New Years Eve.
When I dared to question why the bar was closed from 11.40pm until 12.15am (defeating purpose of a NYE party), I was bluntly told to ''F'' off if I didn't like it, because ''us bar staff have to enjoy our night too''.
Enjoy it, sure. Take a ticket entry fee and then refuse to serve is unacceptable.
This bar has lost my, and many others custom as a result of this terrible experience.
I have recently visited this bar for the first time, under my friends recommendation's. It was really a lot more than I expected.
The decor is elegant and magical specially well combined to its resident djs' music. The staff is friendly, the service is fast and the food is magnific!
Could never imagine a night club that provides such a fine dine, yet casual and affordable. Great place!
I love going to Lost Society, its a very cool bar, but yet the staff make you feel as if its your local boozer and you have been going to there for years.
Great for a lazy Sunday, especially in the garden, fantastic sunday roast, and the cocktails are superb
I've never posted a review before so I think that shows my feelings towards how rude the people were to me when I telephoned the Lost Society to try and book a room/area for a party. They were so rude and basically told me they were busy enough and didn't need my money! If they are like that to potential customers I can't imagine what the service is like when you get in there. There are plenty of places to go in Clapham so my advice is to steer clear of this place, they clearly don't value our custom!!
I have to say, I have to take my hat off to any venue that can sell out in advance for New Years Eve with tickets costing £35 each without a single mention of any DJ or music on there advertising. Well done to Lost Society in all thats its achieved.
Oh dear!! What aload of sh*te!!! Firstly paying just a fiver to get in shoud've given us an idea on what the place would be like... it was hurrendous!! Loads of older fat guys ....30+++ and young stupid ugly college girls thinking they are cool and sooo 'london' such a shame as I've wanted to come here for so long it's small crowded and ugly....don't bother....SERIOUSLY don't bother!!xxx
What a night! Fantastic atmosphere, fab music, chilled crowd and reasonable prices. Top tip - book a table for dinner (also very tasty and decent portions) to get straight in at weekends. Otherwise be prepared to queue.
Lost society is a great place for a night out! The food is fantastic, drinks are amazing and the service couldnt be better! Along with the DJs this has to be one of the best nights out in london!
A night out to Lost in south London will not disappoint!
Quality resident dj's and friendy staff that know their stuff.
If the packed dance floor gets too much they have a nice little garden that also has a bar.
I recently ate there in the upstairs restaurant that overlooks the main bar. Guess modern british would best describe it, very good!!
Well worth a visit A+++
Word of warning though, arrive early as the queue on a Sat' often starts forming as early as 8!
I and a party of friends visited Lost Society on Friday, we all had a lovely meal which was cooked to perfection and the waiter was very friendly and we were treated to some great cocktails, we did have a wait a while to get served but when it comes
as good as this it is well worth the wait. very good.
This venue could be pretty cool (as we had heard prior to our visit) but is actually quite dreadful. We were a group of five very lovely ladies who wanted a girls night out somewhere with a cocktail list to die for and we had heard Lost Society was just the place. We tried to email The Lost Society in advance to reserve an area however no response was ever received (maybe it got lost?). We presumed that we would be fine if we arrived at 8.15pm but that’s where the trouble began as we encountered by a queue. The queue wasn’t too long and being British and we don’t mind a well-managed effective queue – however this was anything but. We queued for an hour with very minimal movement whilst a large number of random people seemed to be able to waft in with a bit of a wink and a kiss (in the most fake of all manners) for the door staff. Some drunken girls nearly started a fight by trying to blag their way into the queue, when my friend highlighted this to a bouncer he basically just ignored it (!). We reached the front of the queue by 9pm rather disillusioned but determined to sit it out after so much time invested. Then movement ground to a halt and we were informed of a one in one out policy (meanwhile large numbers of people ‘popped’ out with a stamp on their hand many not even returning). A while later 8 people left and we were then told that they now needed to wait for another two to leave so they could let in 2 people from the normal queue and two from the guest list queue at a time. 15 minutes later 6 people from the guest list queue were allowed to enter whilst we remained in the cold contrary to the promise. Another 15 minutes and we finally were granted entry at nearly 10pm!! To add insult to injury we were charged a £5 entry fee although we had noted many other people had not been required to pay this (probably you only have to pay after 10pm?). Once inside there seemed plenty of room for at least another 50 people (pretty much the whole queue). The décor of the
I returned to Lost Society for my second visit on Saturday night for some birthday drinks and meal.
The drinks were again fantastic as was the food. All well done and well priced. There were more people there than they had allocated a table for but the staff accommodated us the best they could, as they did with the veggies there (perhaps a few more veggie options would be good if there is to be no a la carte menu).
Overall it was a great night and that was mainly due to all the staff efforts.
What a cool, surreal place this Lost Society is. I had one of the best whiskey sours I have tasted followed oddly by a troupe of Samba dancing, Brazillian girls. It changed from a dull drizzly day to like being at the Rio festival. Granted my experience was one drink, totaling a 30 minute stay, but if it's anything like that again its my new favourite bar.
A truly awful night. The Lost Society bar staff just need to chill out and stop trying so hard to be cool. The music was very mediocre and it just lacked, full stop. Really did not enjoy the atmosphere there. The one good thing was the decor. would not go again, Lost Society is true to its name.
Lost Society is my favourite drinking hole in Clapham Good drink selection, friendly staff and great eye candy, especially on a Sat night. Worth a visit if you have not been before. A+
I'd heard great things about Lost Society and was really looking forward to our visit. The decor and atmosphere didn't disappoint, however the rest of our experience was dreadful.
First we were kept waiting for nearly 20 minutes to be seated at our table. We were sat downstairs and it was so noisy we could barely hear each other over the music. Our waitress obviously couldn't hear us either with several mistakes and missing items on our order which we had to ask for several times.
She even poured red wine into a glass which already had white wine in it, and then brought a glass of Merlot to replace the Columbard my friend asked for!
The food itself was unremarkable, although it was good value for money. I will go back to visit the Lost Society bar, but steer clear of the restaurant!
