The ViewLondon Review
So Chelsea it hurts, Lots Road Pub and Dining Room is a pleasant gastropub strictly for those not offended by neutral colourschemes and fancy pub food.
The Venue
Lots Road Pub and Dining Room is a very nicely put together spot, although it’s straight out of the book of ‘Fancy Chelsea Pubs’. You know the drill: glossy bar, open kitchen, neutral colourscheme, dull dining tables, blackboards, dim lighting and foliage. Things you will have seen a thousand times before. It has a certain style, sure, you just can’t help but wish they’d made more out of what is actually a very pretty building.
The Atmosphere
Although Lots Road Pub and Dining Room has the upbeat atmosphere of a pub, it still has that upmarket edge as Sloanes look to ‘rough it’, but only in pleasant surroundings. That said, there is a nice mix of groups of friends, couples and families, all of whom seem to enjoy themselves. And the staff are very friendly and used to meeting the needs of their demanding clientele.
The Food
It’s impressive that the menu at Lots Road Pub and Dining Room changes daily and the prices aren’t bad for the area – two people eating a main course each with drinks can do so for under £40 a head, which for Chelsea is positively cheap. The menu mixes up pub classics such as burger and chips with specials like seared black cod, mussel and chorizo broth or Tuscan bread and tomato salad. It’s just a shame that they won’t cook the burgers less than medium-well for ‘health and safety’ reasons, which seems strange when chains like Gourmet Burger Kitchen manage it OK.
The Drink
Perhaps surprisingly, Lots Road Pub and Dining Room has an excellent list of draught beers that really should be commended, with Amstel, Kronenbourg, Fosters, Bitburger, Meantime London Lager, Erdinger, Leffe, Guinness and regularly changing guest ales all available on tap. The only downside to this is the price, with beer costing anywhere from £3.90-£5.55 a pint. Ouch. Although, this is in keeping with the area.
If you prefer the grape then they also have an excellent wine list, well priced with bottles starting at just £15.55 and not peaking much above £30. They even offer a few cocktails for under £8, including a mean bloody mary that packs one hell of a kick.
The Last Word
Lots Road Pub and Dining Room is a good pub and offers a decent menu but you can’t help but think that it’s just jumped on the ‘gastro’ bandwagon.
