General Price Guide: Moderate.

Location and Punters:
This long-established French-owned, seafood restaurant seems caught in a time warp – but is none the worse for it, in fact, it is what gives it such character. Standards, over the years, have remained consistently high, at Lou Pescadou giving this popular eaterie has a loyal local following. The nearest tube station is Earls Court.

Atmosphere and Décor:
The décor is dated. A downstairs bar is packed with French rugby memorabilia and the restaurant itself sports an old-fashioned nautical theme. An unimaginative blue and white colour scheme, with fishing nets and seafaring prints on the walls, set the scene but there is a pleasant outdoor seating area for fine weather. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and service is very obliging - the mainly French staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Nosh and Drinks:
Cooking is proficient, unfussy and uses only the freshest seafood from the local market. Daily specials are particularly inviting. The Terrine de St. Pierre (John Dory) au Beurre Blanc and the Saumon à la Florentine are regular favourites. The menu, however, is not exclusively dedicated to seafood; a selection of meat dishes, such as Magret de Canard aux Framboises or Navarin D’Agneau Printanier, is always available. Staple dishes include oysters, lobster, squid, prawns, clams, or meatier options like good old plain cooked steak – done to perfection!

A good choice is the Plateau Pescadou, which consists of Oysters, Crab and Clams, or the Plate of Whelks, Winkles and Prawns, with Aïoli. Other popular dishes include King Prawns with Fennel and Garlic, Ravioli of Crab and Scallops, Roast Monkfish à la Niçoise and Smoked Haddock with Juniper Butter. Traditional, French-style desserts are also available, such as Tarte au Chocolat. A set two-course dinner costs from around £13.50. The wine list is entirely French and reasonably priced, with house wine at approximately £10.50 per bottle.

The Experience:
Lou Pescadou has a delightful Gallic ambience. A passion for seafood pervades the place and dominates both menu and décor.
