Go before Louis dies or retires. There is no 'assistant' waiting to take over. He makes very high quality pastry and cakes at old prices. like £3.25 for lightest chocolate cake. Everything is based on the old style 'continental' methods and products... and made with love. Maybe too much cream or fuss for some modernists and if you only eat brand name pastries in boxes from High Street shops or other 'trendy' places you may find this higher quality and choice disturbing... Like proper sex with an experienced partner for the first time. Be brave, try more than one. The room is unchanged for 40 years I think. Service is well 'continental'. The tea itself is excellent.Very popular place with eclectic customers. Go soon.

This is an authentic Hungarian place in the sense that it's gloomy and the cakes don't taste of much at all.

Are you on prozac now? I do hope your mood and taste buds are improved. My old medication removed my sense of taste also. Life has so much to offer and I find a cake or two (well three) when I'm depressed sets me up for the day. Then the pubs are open from 11am and the day starts.

Because I say their cakes are not flavourful, you're claiming my tastebuds are defective? If you've ever lived in Hungary you'd know that their cakes are pretty bad - perhaps because the raw ingredients are not good, and they use margarine, not butter etc

As for depression, Hungarians are a passive, melancholy people by their own account. Even when their prime minister was caught on tape 'we lied to the people - we lied in the morning and we lied in the evening', people still voted for him.

Still, if you work for Louis Patisserie, consider this review upgraded to 3 stars - it's an ok place, which has character, I was just being a little droll about how it reminded me of life in Budapest.

Louis Patisserie is the only place you need to go when you’re feeling down. They serve cakes and pastries that can cure the most broken of hearts.
