The ViewLondon Review
Luna Rossa is known in the area for being one of Notting Hill’s favourite pizza places. The VenueThe charming little place beautifully recreates an Italian village decor with red brick walls, typically Italian arches and windows. You feel that you are sitting in some veranda in a traditional Italian country home. The bustling open kitchen, with a wood-fired oven is a further treat as you watch enormous pizzas being prepared and laid out on long wooden trays.
The AtmosphereThe restaurant is always so full so you'll probably be in for a wait at the bar. This is one of London’s few restaurants that was full on Christmas Eve, when most of London and its restaurants were empty. Whilst the staff is no longer completely Italian, the spirit of Italian conviviality reigns and the service is super efficient, even with the crowds pouring in.
The FoodOn a good day the wood-fired pizzas are arguably London’s best. Unfortunately, there are days when the food isn't that great and the pizzas are thick and undercooked. Pastas aren’t the house speciality and the anti pasti comes with rather poor quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Annoyingly, bread is brought to your table without prompting and winds up on the bill at the end if you touch it. The frozen desserts tastes like they're from the supermarket and are to be avoided.
The DrinkThere is a reasonable selection of nice Italian wines, which make a perfect complement to the authentic pizzas.
The Last WordWhen the food is good, Luna Rossa is one of the most adorable Italian restaurants in London. But when the food is bad, it's a big shame.
