Completely agree with the last three reviews! I have been here twice now - first time was disappointing but being on the look out for some English food I thought I would give the place a second chance. This was a mistake!
We were told several times that we only had the table for 2 hours which ordinarily I wouldn't object to in a busy restaurant. However the place had multiple empty tables! My fiance and I also found the way they told us rude and unwelcoming - not the best way to treat people who are about to spend money with you!
And finally the food was really disappointing. I had pheasant with mashed potato and took about three bites of the pheasant before abandoning - it was very chewy and tasted like low quality meat. The mash, as per the reviewer below, was solid and school dinner like.
This place is in the same vein as other British restaurants in the area like Julie's which serves low quality food and thinks a 'cosy' atmosphere makes up for it, which is a shame because I think you can get some really great English cooking in London.
Suffice to say I won't be going back to Maggie Jones.
Terrible food. We will never come back.
Couldn't agree more with the previous review.
The food was awful. Duck terrine was very dry and resembled cat food more than a pate.
The lamb tasted like it had been cooked for a week and the Duck was quite simply terrible.
The waitors were a grumpy bunch, most of who looked like they'd rather be at home.
The actual restraunt is very atmospheric but don't go for the food, absolute crap!
Maggie Jones is a totally crap place. The waiter gave the impression that he dod not want to be there. We supposedly had wild boar sausages, which tasted like pork. As for the mashed potato, it tasted suspiciously like it had come out of a packet. No gravy was offered and I have to ask for mustard.
£12.75 for three wrinkled sausages and a measly dollop of mash? It was not even worth £2.75. Do not waste your money on Maggie Jones. It is overpriced and very, very disappointing.
Maggie Jones is a wonderful place. I go there every time I am in London for a great rack of lamb and the chocolate pot is to die for. It can be a bit crowded, but the service is excellent. The staff is great and the ambience is fun. maggie Jones is a must to try for anyone coming to London.
Absoltluey amazing food at maggie Jones's and a wonderful atmosphere. However, if fashionable dining is your thing then this is not the place for you. Service was very friendly (maybe a liitle too friendly) even though we turned up late. Would thoroughly recommend Maggie Jones's.
