I´ve been to London several times, but this Indian restaurant was one of the lousiest I´ve ever known.
We were 7 persons at the age from 30 to 60 and wanted to enjoy a great meal. We reserved the table one day before, which was no problem.
When we got there at the right time, we had a small corner next to the toilet. The door didn´t close correctly, the smell of toilet was all around and my mum felt terrible next to the door.

We asked the unfriendly waiter for another possibility to sit and were seated in the middle of the room, which did not mean that we had more space for us to sit and eat.

The waiter was very impolite and unfriendly, chuck down the waterbottles and glasses and beerbottles in front of us. The food was lukewarm and nothing really special. My tandoori chicken was dry and burnt.

This restaurant is intolerable and has no caracter. We´ll never go for dinner there again!

If I could give this restaurant zero stars,I would. The decent food makes it a 1 star, but I would tell you all to RUN from this place!! Went to Maharaja for a meal on Easter Saturday after spending the day in London with my family, had a few drinks in Yates' pub and then all fancied a good curry. I have been to many Indian restaurants and have always been struck by how hard the staff work to ensure a great service.
However, the same cannot be said for this restaurant. When we sat down we decided to order some water as we had already had a few drinks. We noticed that tap water was being served in plastic Evian bottles for £4. We decided to request tap water, as we were planning to have a beer later when our food arrived. Our request was met with a sneer. They seemed to take an instant dislike to us from this moment. They made us feel cheap. We then asked for another jug, which was slammed down in front of us, but not before the waiter told my sister's boyfriend that he was a"tough guy" and winked at us in a nasty manner. By this point we were worrying about what else we had to put up with. Table was wonky so we put some cards under the table leg to make sure that when we were eating that we didn't have the issue of things flying everywhere. Whilst we did this, we were stared at and muttered about and one of the staff even came and knelt down and looked under the table and pulled the cards out without asking why we had put them there. Disgusting. I cannot deny the food was nice enough. When the food came we ordered 2 beers. Had to wait 5-10 mins before I had to ask again. These were again slammed down. When they cleared our plates, one waiter actually shoved his elbow into my face to clear my sisters plate away. After having the bill & change thrown at us, we left without giving a tip - it was already £106 and we felt the service wasnt deserving. As we left they slammed the door behind my mum and were left with an obligatory hand gesture-if you can't beat 'em join 'em

A group of 6 of us ate here after attending a musical. The staff was polite and helpful in our menu selection. The food was brought out in a timely manner and was excellent. We had 6 different dishes and all were wonderful. I would definitely eat here again!

Not great. Service terrible. No charm or manner about them. Speak too loud as in borderline shouting and no eye contact. Was interesting to note they seemed to reserve their politeness for white people, something we experienced in another london Indian restaurant. I'm white but boyfriend is Indian but I still received same treatment as him. We were in London for just a four day trip and have been to four Indian restaurants two of which including this one seem to treat fellow Indians with a lot less hospitality and good manners than white people. Although now my boyfriend informs me those restaurants were run by Bangladesh people. Restaurant is narrow in general. I was cold where I was siting and it was quite far from door. Food totally overpriced and not a penny spent on updating the toilets or restaurant itself. We had chicken and lamb biryani. So oily (which my boyfriend tells me is a good way to disguise bad food) and naan bread had big puddle of oil in middle of it. Certainly nothing to write home about. My boyfriend saw waiter handling money and then handling poppadoms with same hands. Candles on tables but they didn't bother to light them. Waiters weren't concerned about moving out of our way when we were leaving, didn't even give any regards or acknowledgement. Very unprofessional setup and a disgrace for somewhere just off Leicester square. Only credit I’d give them is fresh flowers on table but that’s the height of it!

Good food and good service, but charged my meal in American with their own conversion rate - higher than anywhere else in town.

Claimed the machine did it that way. Yougurt instead of raita, but very good food all in all.

We have Indian food quite a lot, so decided to try the Maharaja of India for a change. The food was really good but you didn't get as much as you do in some curry houses.

Think I'd probably go back to the Maharaja of India but it's not the best Indian I've ever been to.
