The Maharani serves some of the tastiest food I have had at an Indian restaurant but given the area in which they are based I find their accessability limited. Not for the first time I have been out for a late afternoon wander and gone for a meal only to find them closed. On a busy saturday afternoon, hungry and thirsty I turn up to find several shoppers also turning away in disappointment. Great food, excellent service but bad times.

A really, really bad experience from start to finish. Rude, confrontational staff. Bland, poorly prepared food. Not expensive but still felt like a rip-off given the terrible standards. Given the stiff competition on Clapham High St I'm really shocked this place makes so little effort.

Don't bother, I won't be again.

We ate at Maharani Indian Restaurant as a large family group after watching Clapham Common fireworks. We had a reservation but with a queue out the door the place was packed full. Even so we were well looked after and had delicious food. I am more than happy to recommend the Maharani Indian.

I think the Maharani is the best Indian restaurant in London, I really do. Of particular quality are the Tandoori and Tikka dishes, particularly the Chicken Tikka. It is beautifully succulant. The Lamb Pasanda is beautiful with a lovely natural colour and nutty texture to the sauce and a little sprinkling of toasted almond slivers to finish it off. Saag dishes are also good and appear to use fresh spinich unlike some lesser restaurants. Rogon Josh is another favorite. I could go on - I haven't had a dish there that I didn't like. And I've had a lot of Indian food...
