My Friend and I went to Madhi (we were originally looking for a moroccan restaurant featured on t.v.) but as we were hungry we thought we would try it. Food was great (but far too much ended up having a doggy bag which lasted me a few days) service was good. Decor traditional which made a nice change. Sat night so very busy (unlike the Italian round the corner) very good value for money. Disappointed no alcohol but food more than made up for it.Would go again but probably just have starters or main not both.
Ive been going to al Mahdis for about 6 years now. At least once a month i'm there with my family. I've Actually just got back from al Mahdi hammersmith branch & I must say im very annoyed & disappointed at the service of their staff & chefs overall preparation. I usually get the kebab & rice as my main & salad oliveh with bread as my starter. As usual food was great I really enjoyed myself so did my family but. And believe me theres a big but, my starter came luckily which is cold then 15mins later the bread arrives after asking my drinks come along. I ordered my usual dish of kebab rice which was lovely but my wifes dish of baby chicken on bone was pink & raw so I told the staff. They immediately took the dish told me they will speak to the chef. Anyway to cut the long story short my bill came to 25 pounds I gave them 28 pounds considering the service & food as im walking to my car I realised they still charged me for the raw uncooked dish. I went back asked for the reciept told them theyve made a mistake. The manager responded or whoever it was behind the counter responded with u ate some of the chicken. So therefore we are unable to refund you. If this doesnt add insult to injury he had the nerve to say next time you must tell us how well done u want your chicken wtf? I walked out of there as I could clearly see this wasnt going anywhere. I will never go back to al Mahdi ever again as they really dont know how to treat their customers and I think they deffinately are operating on a different time zone to me. There was no apology or anything im really upset about my night out there. I've reccommendedbMahdi in the past to all my friends and family seriously I wish I hadn't. Conclusion Al Mahdi is not what it used to be it really has gone to the dogs
i was there good couple of times... good food.... really poor service of guys working there,,having comment, not listening... messing with booking,,,,, not admitting,,,,not friendly at all,,, dont think i will ever come back,,,,... m
Being Asian and recommending an Iranian restaurant is not easy, but Mahdi is seriously great. I have gone to a lot of Lebanese, Persian restaurants and never rated them but this is good. Try the Mahdi Falludah - food from heaven.
I work around the corner and eat at the Mahdi Restaurant at least once a week. While it is true that the Mahdi decor is cheesy and there has been no great thought given to privacy or lighting, the food is really good, the bread is fantastic and the lunchtime specials are cheap.
The menu at Mahdi is one of the best I've seen in Iranian/Persian restaurants. Normally the choice is limited to a cholo kabab, but here you have a lot of other great Iranian dishes that you can try.
The quality of the food was good, the price reasonable (under £20 pp) and the service efficient. The decor is traditional, yet minimalist with paintings from the great Iranian Mahmoud Farshchian covering several walls. I would definitely recommend Mahdi.
Have eaten here twice and won't be returning. The service at Mahdi is cold and direct and the food (bag of boiled rice and chewy meat) is served with a grimace. I dont think this is value for money. How much would a plate of rice cost if you made it at home?
The worst aspect of dining at Mahdi is you feel pressured by the all-eyes-watching-you environment and the little privacy given for conversation by the seating arrangement.
Overall I give Mahdi a two-star rating. It could go up to three if the staff learned a little customer relations.
Being an Iranian living away from family I have sampled many of the West London Persian/Iranian restaurants. Although this one does badly from a point of view of decor and air conditioning, the food is fantastic. The most amazing kebab grills I have tasted, and equally fantastic starters and freshly made bread. The staff are very friendly and courteous.
Great value for money, but dont expect your cutlery to match or for the the WCs to be more than basic. I certainly recommend the "chelo kabab barg" (Grilled lamb with rice) and Mirza ghassemi (Aubergine and tomato)with bread.
